Morawa Football Club success story

Morawa Football Club has a promising future despite struggling to survive just three years ago, thanks to the development of a future directions plan that has generated new passion among its members.

In 2008, Morawa Football Club was having major problems surviving and getting the local support it needed to go forward both on and of the ground. With this in mind it was decided that a plan was needed for the club.

In July/August 2008 WAFC Club Development Manager Glen Morley was invited to Morawa to help put the plan together.

Representatives of all winter sports in the area were also invited to the planning meeting, along with local government representatives and any community members who were interested, as it was felt they all needed to be involved.

WACFL Boundary Review

The West Australian Country Football League has conducted the first stage of its boundary review meetings.

The first of these meetings was held in Moora on Wednesday, 2 November, followed by an extremely well attended meeting in Narrogin the following evening.

The WACFL views these meetings as a great opportunity to conduct a health check on the current position of country football clubs and leagues.

The two meetings were chaired by experienced WACFL administrators Graeme ‘Charlie’ Young, pictured, and John Shadbolt.

QR National Freight Award Recipient - Leroy Jetta

Leroy Jetta was named one of the ARG AFL Draftee recipients in 2006 and also received recognition that same year for representing his club in the State 18’s team, whilst playing with his home club Brookton/Pingelly and since then has made a name for himself at Essendon Football club.

Leroy is an exciting player with great pace, tremendous skills and ability to beat opponents. He exploded into the AFL in 2007, playing four games and kicking three goals, to start the 2007 season. Injury cut short his appearances but he returned to play football with Essendon affiliate club Bendigo Bombers.

QR National Freight Award recipient Nat Fyfe

Nat Fyfe is another successful player who has made the transition from Country Football to the AFL, with the support of the QR National Freight (formerly ARG) scholarship funding.

Nat Fyfe received an ARG AFL Draftee Award in 2009. Originally from Lake Grace, Fyfe made his debut in the round 5, 2010 Len Hall Game against Richmond.

He announced his arrival in the AFL with a soaring pack mark. Nat was a panel beater prior to becoming one of the AFL’s brightest stars.

He has taken his game to a new level in 2011 in just his second season of AFL Football.
