WA claims first win at Australian Country Championships

The Amcap/New Holland WA State Country team started the second day of the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival with a win against Vic Districts 3.6.24 to Vic 3.3.21.

According to WACFL General Manager, Cameron Knapton, the team was extremely pleased to come away with their first win of the carnival despite not playing their best football.

“We were all over them but to be honest kept them in the game with inaccurate kicking,” said Mr Knapton.

Best players for WA were Tom Collins, Luke Bairstow, Kris Clarkson and Adam Walsh.

WA face tough competition on first day of national carnival

THE Amcap/New Holland WA State Country Football team has made a disappointing start to their campaign at the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival with no wins on the board after the first day of competition.

The carnival – being held in Canberra until Sunday 25th July – features seven teams from WA, NSW, SA, QLD, ACT and Victoria (Vic Major and Vic Districts) and according to West Australian Country Football League General Manager, Cameron Knapton, the team are very disappointed to be the only group without a win after day one of the carnival.

State Country team defeated in opening contests

THE Amcap/New Holland WA State Country team lost their opening two games at the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival today in Canberra.

After kicking the first two goals the WA side was overrun by the defending national champions, ACT, losing by 25 points. The final score was ACT - 6 goals 7 behinds 43 to WA – 3 goals straight 18.

WA’s Jarrod Martin kicked two goals and the best players were Adam Spencer, Clinton Rudd, Troy Ditchburn and Daniel Lewis.

Diggers inspire country football stars in nation’s capital

A MOVING dusk ceremony at the Australian War Memorial has inspired the nation’s best country footballers to give everything for their team mates over the next few days following a unique launch of the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival in Canberra.

Commencing today (Thursday, July 22), the carnival will see the seven teams from Victoria (Vic Major and Vic Districts), NSW, ACT, WA, SA and QLD compete to take out the national title and according to Australian Country Football Council President, Glenn Scott, the Australian War Memorial was the perfect place to mark the occasion.

“Being such an iconic and prominent venue in Australia - with so much history, pride and source of mateship - we felt the players would have an amazing experience at the Australian War Memorial,” said Mr Scott.

Sibasado visits Albany Schools

On Tuesday the 29th of June some lucky students from local schools received a special visit from Fremantle Docker Casey Sibasado. The Rookie listed Docker was in Albany on Tuesday for the ‘Smarter than Smoking’ AFL Regional Player Visits. After an early morning flight Casey’s day started at Manypeaks Primary School. Casey, along with AFL Sportsready trainee Cameron Newbold and Great Southern Regional Football Development Manager Brent Sheridan conducted some Football Clinics and games with the students before speaking to them about the ‘Smarter than Smoking’ message and the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.
