WAAFL Stars Tour South Africa

The AAFC two week tour of South Africa has left a lifelong impression for all participants from both countries.

A contingent of 8 WAAFL representatives joined a further 26 players and officials from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania for a two week ambassadorial and game development tour of South Africa.

West Coast Cowan Appoints New Coach for 2011

West Coast Cowan AFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Tristen Walker as the new head coach of the West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club.

Tristen Walker brings a wealth of experience from his involvement in the football world; from his time as a player under Mick Malthouse at the Collingwood Football Club, to his previous involvement as an assistant coach at West Coast Cowan in 2008. Following this internship at the club, Walker has spent the previous 2 years involved in implementing sporting and AFL programs with the indigenous community in the North of Australia. Due to a change in working circumstances, Walker is now in a position to commit to this role at the West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club for 2011.

Two Positions Vacant at WAAFL Board Election

The WAAFL will have two Board positions up for election at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

The meeting scheduled for 24 November will require those seeking a position on the Board to be nominated by a club member in writing and signed by:

(a)          the nominator;

(b)          the nominee to signify their willingness to stand for election, to the League not less than 14 days before the day on           which the annual general meeting concerned is to be held.

North Beach Claim Record Seventh in a Row

After eighteen weeks of regular season and four weeks of finals the 2010 WAAFL season has come to a close, with regular season dominance asserted during the finals.

Once again North Beach has plenty to celebrate this off season, with both their senior sides successful in last weekend’s grand finals.

A Grade Grand Final

The 2010 WAAFL season comes to an end this Saturday with the A grade grand finals at Medibank Stadium.

The first game of the day, the Phil Scott Colts grand final, sees the minor premiers Fremantle CBC taking on the fifth placed Trinity Aquinas with both teams chasing their first Colts premiership.

Burwood Wins West Perth District RAC Volunteer of the Year

Wanneroo Amateur Football Club President Geoff Burwood has been announced as the West Perth District Football Development Council’s 2010 RAC- West Perth District Volunteer of the Year.

In 2010, 40 nominations were received for volunteers within the West Perth District. The standard of applicants was extremely high and all deserve their nominations.

Grand Final Weekend in the WAAFL

After more than 20 games, the last week of the season is finally upon us, with all but three of the WAAFL premierships to be decided this weekend.

With both teams assured of an A Grade berth next season, minor premiers Collegians and SFL upstarts Maddington with have all eyes on winning the CJ Jamieson Cup in the B Grade grand final at Fremantle Oval this Saturday.

New Champions Crowned at WAAFL Fairest & Best Night

The WAAFL, in its 89th season, held its annual Presentation Dinner with over 760 guests attending the Grand Ballroom at Burswood Entertainment Complex last night, Wednesday, August 25.

In a night full of glamour and glitz, MC Clint Wheeldon from ABC Sports Radio guided the night through a host of awards. There were 20 grades covering colts and seniors, plus individual and club champion honours.

Premierships and Promotions on the Line

With half of the grand final teams decided last week, this week’s preliminary finals will be hard fought as teams compete for the chance to not only contend for the premiership but also to advance into the next grade.

The B Grade preliminary final will be between Swan Athletic and Maddington at Claremont Oval this Saturday, with the winner heading to the grand final to face Collegians. This week is the second chance for Swan Athletic to make the grand final. After defeating Hamersley Carine two weeks ago, Swan Athletic lost last week’s second semi final to Collegians 9.9 (63) to 19.10 (124).
