The
AFL Women’s National Championship was launched in conjunction with AFL Women’s
Round at Subiaco Oval today, June 2, as Australia’s
top female talent prepares to compete this week in Perth.
The West Australian Football Commission is hosting the AFL Women’s National Championship, starting tomorrow, June 3 and culminating in the Division 1 Grand Final at Subiaco Oval, prior to the West Coast Eagles and Geelong game on Sunday, June 7.
Held in partnership with the AFL, the event also provides a launching pad for AFL Women’s Round, which will include a host of other events to celebrate the vital role that women play in our football community.
Teams from the ACT, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria will compete against Western Australia’s State team at the National Championship, while a WA Host side made up of additional Talent Academy players will also take part in Division 2.
WA’s ultimate aim is to defeat Victoria for the first time and be crowned Championship winners at Subiaco Oval on June 7. This year’s bi-annual tournament has all the attributes to be the best ever, with Australia’s finest female footballers meeting to compete for the highest accolade in their sport.
Support for the tournament, especially from the Department of Sport and Recreation, is greatly appreciated by the players, organisers and volunteers. For more information on this exciting event visit www.wafootball.com.au
