An exciting new concept called AFL 9s

The newest form of Australian Rules Football is gathering momentum in Western Australia, with AFL 9s competitions being launched at venues around Perth.

The modified version of the game can be played as an indoor or outdoor competition and includes both mixed and men’s divisions.
A competition is already underway at Kingsway Indoor Stadium and a new league will be launched at Curtin University’s indoor sports centre next week.

More competitions will be launched at venues around Perth in October.

AFL 9s “The Game for Everyone” emphasises inclusive competition that it is accessible to individuals of all abilities.

The non-contact aspect is particularly aimed at attracting both male and female participants of all ages who may be new to the game or prefer to play a less physically demanding version of AFL.

AFL 9s has strong parallels with the traditional game but is easier to play and provides an environment whereby participation, enjoyment and safety are the priority.

AFL 9s has applications across community competitions, school environments and international markets whereby structured competitions can be developed or alternatively, social formats created.

Wiluna comes West

The 2011 football match between the Wiluna Martu Eagles and The Dalkeith / Nedlands Eagles has been played and won for the third successive year.

The brain child of Mr Michael Wilson and Mr Peter Dawson, this event has grown exponentially since its inception in 2009 and has developed into much more than just a football match.

This year’s event titled, Wiluna comes West, was conducted on Rottnest (Wadjemup) Island over the Foundation Day long weekend in June.

With over 120 players, parents and supporters making the trip across the water to participate in the four day carnival, the organisation needed for this year’s event was a massive collaborative effort.
