WAFC Schoolgirls showcase skills in Grand Final

Corpus Christi College, left, and St Mary’s School, below, celebrated grand final success last weekend at Steel Blue Oval after taking out their respective divisions in the 2012 WAFC Schoolgirls Cup.

For St Mary’s it was their first White Division Grand Final win in two attempts after going through the season undefeated, over running a gallant Seton College by 28 points, while for Corpus Christi College it was marvelous achievement taking out the 2012 Moore division title by 35 points over previous two time title holders John Septimus Roe ACS, after being promoted from the White division in 2011.

Time is running out to nominate a volunteer for the NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer of the Year

Nominate a volunteer who will go into the running to be awarded a trip to the 2012 AFL Grand Final – what a way to say thank you for all their hard work and effort!

Simply CLICK HERE to nominate a valuable volunteer.

Each District / Regional winner will receive a plaque as recognition for their contribution. The seven state winners will each receive a trip to the 2012 AFL Grand Final where the overall winner will be announced.

The overall winner will accompany the AIS Academy under 17s on their training camp in 2013 along with $5000 spending money: a true money-can't-buy experience!

All NAB AFL Auskick Volunteers that are nominate automatically feed into the Sunday Times WA Football Volunteer of the Year award.

 

AFL joins schools program

The Australian Government and the AFL today announced a partnership that will see the AFL’s newest form of the game, ‘AFL 9s’, introduced nationally through Australian schools and childcare centres via the Australian Sports Commission’s Active After-School Communities program.

Federal Sports Minister Kate Lundy joined Brisbane Lions players Matthew Leuenberger and Josh Drummond and primary school students from Ascot PCYC  at the Gabba to launch the partnership with an AFL 9s session that will be replicated across the nation in the Active After-School Communities program.

It represents the first time that the AFL has had a formal partnership with the AASC program.

Jumper design a winner for Westminster

Subiaco Football Club player Des Headland presented a unique set of playing jumpers at Westminster Primary School on Monday to the winners of the West Australian Football Commission’s Design a Football Jumper Competition.

Students at Westminster Primary, which is in the Subiaco District, were thrilled to meet Headland and receive their playing jumpers, which were designed by Year 7 student Timothy Do.

The WAFC ran the Design a Football Jumper competition in 2012 in conjunction with Burley Sekem.

AFL9s Corporate Cup @ Langley Park

The second season of Perth’s premier AFL9s corporate competition is underway and expected to be stronger than ever!

After a successful ‘mixed’ competition in the inaugural season, the competition has now expanded with a Men’s division being held every Thursday.

There is a great mix of skills, with beginners playing alongside former West Coast ruckman Phil Scott, really making it ‘The Game for Everyone’.

Last season’s mixed champions, Hatch Hurricanes, are leading the way undefeated at the top of the ladder with Angry Birds and Woody’s Warriors travelling closely behind.

2012 Coles AFL School Ambassador of the Year Awards

The 2012 Coles AFL School Ambassador of the Year Awards will be presented at Patersons Stadium in August to recognise teachers who have excelled in enhancing learning and promoting physical activity through AFL programs in WA schools during 2012.

This year recognition will also be given to Coles AFL School Ambassadors who exhibited best practice over 5 or more years.

Female Football Talent Showcase

WA’s female football talent will be showcased this Sunday when the ‘Yorga’s Koodjal Kadadjiny’ match is played at Perth Demon’s Football Club as part of  NAIDOC Week celebrations.

The ‘Yorga’s Koodjal Kadadjiny’ match, which means Women’s Two Way Learning Match, kicks off at 2:30pm this Sunday, July 8 and will feature an Indigenous All Stars team against a WA Women’s Football League All Stars side.

WAWFL and State Schoolgirls curtain-raiser games will also be played on the day.

Yorga Match Program:

10am WAWFL Reserves Match – Peel Thunderbirds v Swan Districts

12pm Curtain Raiser – U16’s State Schoolgirls v Mixed Youth Girls

2pm Pre-game entertainment
