Match of the Week - Stirling vs Collegians

THE Key Start Home Loans Match of the Week is in the final round of the A Grade division between Stirling and Collegians, Stirling fighting for a crucial home final in the first week while Collegians try to avoid relegation.

While a position in the top five has been guaranteed for Stirling their up and down season has seen this clash become a vital one as they attempt to claim a home final. For Collegians, although difficult, it is still mathematically possible for them to avoid relegation only one season after winning the B Grade premiership.

School All-Stars named

The cream of Western Australia’s high school playing, coaching and umpiring talent was acknowledged at  the ‘All Stars’ function that brought together the key performers in both the Belt Up Cup and Smarter than Smoking Schoolgirls Cup.

The Belt Up Cup and Smarter than Smoking Schoolgirls Cup are the largest upper secondary school football competitions in WA, with approximately 4,500 students from over 150 metropolitan and country schools competing this year.

Finals to kick off this weekend

IT is finals time again in the WAAFL and suburban grounds across metropolitan Perth are set to host the premier amateur footballers in the state this Saturday the 22nd as B Grade and below begin their quest for premiership glory.

Since 1922 the Western Australian Amateur Football League has been Western Australia’s premier amateur football competition, launching the careers of WAFL and AFL stars, as well as playing home to their own batch of talent.

WAWFL Finals kick off this weekend

The 2009 WAWFL Finals series is set to kick off this weekend with a big day of football to be held at Hamer Park this Sunday the 23rd of August, with the first matches kicking off at 12:30pm.

After another successful season of Women’s football which saw the competition again expand and incorporate another team, the elite female footballers of WA will battle it out for the most coveted prize in Western Australian Women’s Football, the 2009 WAWFL Premiership.

Juniors rule Tigerland

More than 600 junior footy players descended on Claremont Oval in Round 19 for the annual Junior Parade Day.

A glorious winter’s day set the scene, as footy-mad kids and parents marched proudly with their junior clubs in the lead up to Claremont’s league match against Swan Districts.

The 12 clubs lined the middle of the oval for team photos, before forming a guard of honour around the player’s race for Claremont’s volunteers and league team as they entered the arena.

Match of the Week - Melville vs Mount Lawley

THE Key Start Home Loans Match of the Week for round 18 is the final round of the F Grade competition between Melville and Mt Lawley. The two sides, sitting in sixth and fifth respectively, will battle it out in Melville’s last home game for the year.

 “The team is keen to finish the season on a winning note at home this week against another finals bound team.” President James Della-Bonna said, highlighting the Rams successful season but lamenting a draw against second placed Bullcreek Leeming last week which saw them just missing out on a finals spot.

AFL School Ambassador of the Year

A trip to the AFL Grand Final awaits Eaton Primary School teacher Perry Home after the South West finalist was named WA AFL School Ambassador of the Year during a gala event at Subiaco Oval on Wednesday night (August 12, 2009).

Remarkably, Mr Home claimed the award for the second consecutive year from more than 800 WA AFL School Ambassadors after his outstanding work promoting football to both male and female participants.

Inaugural game for intellectually disabled

WA’s inaugural football match for people with an intellectual disability will be held this Sunday, August 16, at the Kingsway Football and Sporting Club following the recent success of ‘Come and Try’ days coordinated by the WA Amateur Football League (WAAFL)

Commencing at 3pm, the game has been scheduled by the WAAFL in conjunction with the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Recreation and Sport Network following the success of ‘Come and Try’ days at Lynwood Ferndale Amateur Football Club and Kingsway Football and Sporting Club over the last fortnight.

Country Grand Finals kick off

Grand Finals have kicked off around country WA, with Saints defeating Towns in the Fortescue National Football League last fortnight to claim the first premiership flag for 2009.

Saints won the game 13.6 (84) to 9.12 (66) under lights at Paraburdoo.

The second country Grand Final for 2009 saw Tigers triumph in the Newman National Football League last Saturday, August 8, defeating Centrals by 20 points in a close game at Capricorn Oval.

Spider to celebrate 400-game milestone

THE heart and soul of Brentwood Booragoon Amateur Football Club over the last two decades, Mark ‘Spider’ Sinden, will reach a massive milestone next Saturday, August 15, when he become the club’s first player to notch up 400 games.

Club President Rhys Jenkins congratulated Sinden on the milestone, describing it as “a testimony to his commitment, love and loyalty for Brentwood Booragoon.”
