The Geoff Christian Media Centre
Geoff Christian commenced as a junior football writer for the "West Australian" newspaper as a teenager in 1954. In 1961 he became Chief Football writer for the paper; a position he held for more than a quarter of a century. In the late eighties, he retired and concentrated on radio work.
As a result of his knowledge and integrity he was regarded as a doyen of sporting journalists and was held in the highest regard.
High ranking football administrators also often consulted him, as his wise counsel was greatly valued. His contribution to football was recognised in 2000 by the AFL when he was elected to the AFL Hall of Fame, in the category of media. His death in 1998 following a long illness prematurely robbed the sport of a great contributor.
The Frank Sparrow Broadcasting Facility
Frank Sparrow enjoyed a very successful playing career of about 200 games, mainly with East Perth, commencing with the underage competition during the war and concluding as Captain/Coach of West Perth FC in 1956 (having been Captain/Coach of Swan Districts FC in 1953-55 and non-playing Coach of West Perth FC in 1957). He then embarked on a very long career in the electronic media. He commenced broadcasting football in 1958 and continued until his retirement in 1995 38 seasons later. During this time he was also Chairman of Channel 7's World of Football programme for 13 years during the 60's and 70's.
