WAFL Round 11 match reportsMonday, June 5, 2017 - 6:00 PM - by Chris Pike

SUBIACO snatched a thriller over Peel Thunder on Saturday in Round 11 of the WAFL with Swan Districts beating Perth, before on WA Day East Perth and South Fremantle scored convincing derby victories.

Coming off last Saturday's history-making state game victory by the WAFL State Team over the VFL by 63 points in Melbourne, the competition resumed on Saturday with the two matches.

There was plenty of anticipation ahead of the grand final rematch between Peel Thunder and Subiaco at Bendigo Bank Stadium, and the contest certainly didn’t fail to disappoint.

In the end it was a goal to captain Kyal Horsley that put the Lions back in front and won the game for the visitors in the finish in a thrilling conclusion.

Subiaco claimed the 12.15 (87) to 12.11 (83) victory over Peel with the Lions having now won nine consecutive matches to currently sit three games clear on top of the ladder.

The Thunder are now just clinging to fifth spot at 5-5.

Saturday's other game in Round 11 took place at Lathlain Park with Swan Districts returning to the winner's list and consolidating a top five position with a 14.13 (97) to 9.10 (64) victory over Perth.

Swans had lost three of their previous four matches prior to a two-week break, but they controlled the contest against the Demons to win by 33 points and return to fourth position on the ladder at 6-3.

Perth remains eighth now with a 2-8 record.

Then in the traditional WA Day derbies on Monday, East Perth won a fifth straight match after beginning the season with five losses, defeating West Perth 14.19 (103) to 7.15 (57) at Leederville Oval.

It was the WA Day Foundation Derby at East Fremantle and South Fremantle came away with the second biggest derby victory in history, annihilating the Sharks 28.17 (185) to 6.4 (40) at East Fremantle Oval.
