WAFL Round 22 teams and previewsFriday, August 18, 2017 - 10:18 AM

IT is the penultimate round of the 2017 WAFL season and the fight for finals positions couldn’t be hotter with Swan Districts, East Perth, West Perth and even Claremont facing must-win battles on Saturday.

With Subiaco guaranteed of the minor premiership and of South Fremantle finishing second with East Fremantle and Perth locked in a battle over the wooden spoon, the fight for positions in between remains fascinating.

That sets the stage for four potentially defining matches on Saturday beginning with Swan Districts playing Claremont at Steel Blue Oval. A win for Swans and they are guaranteed of playing finals while a loss leaves that in the air and keeps the Tigers slim hopes alive.

West Perth will need to win its last two games to remain in the finals race and that means Saturday's task is a significant one with the Falcons playing a Subiaco team on a 17-game winning streak at Leederville Oval.

Peel Thunder can guarantee third position and a finals double chance in its match with East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval while East Perth can go a long way to securing its finals place too against Perth at Lathlain Park.

The second placed South Fremantle has the Round 22 bye.
