WAFL AHG Semi-Finals teams and previewsSaturday, September 9, 2017 - 11:00 PM

IT is semi-final Sunday in the WAFL with Subiaco and Peel Thunder attempting to be the first team to qualify for the 2017 Grand Final while South Fremantle and Swan Districts are fighting just to stay alive.

The AHG WAFL Finals Series began last weekend with Peel Thunder beating South Fremantle in the qualifying final and Swan Districts downing West Perth in the elimination final.

Now this Sunday, the action begins with the first semi-final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle hosting Swan Districts.

The Bulldogs finished the season in second position and on a nine-game winning run before losing to Peel last Saturday by 18 points. Swans finished fourth and despite a four-game losing streak, beat West Perth by 15 points last Sunday at Steel Blue Oval.

The two teams now meet in a cut-throat battle on Sunday with the winner to advance to the preliminary final and the season over for the loser.

The second semi-final will then take place at Leederville Oval with Subiaco hosting Peel Thunder with a Grand Final berth on the line.

The Lions enter the clash having had the break last weekend having finished the season as minor premiers with a 19-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Thunder have now won five straight finals matches including last year's Grand Final triumph over Subiaco.

Now the winner of Sunday's clash that will be live on Channel 7 from 2.30pm will be straight into the 2017 Grand Final. The loser will host next Sunday's preliminary final.

Meanwhile in the colts, the first semi-final will take place on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval from 8.50am with Swan Districts playing East Perth. The second semi-final will be at Leederville Oval from 12pm between East Fremantle and Claremont.

And in the reserves, the first semi-final will be at Fremantle Community Bank Oval from 11.25 between Claremont and Swan Districts.

And despite South Fremantle finishing clear as minor premiers and their league side hosting a final on Sunday, it's Subiaco with the home ground advantage in the second semi-final taking on the Bulldogs from 9.10am at Leederville Oval.
