Footy writing competition winners announcedWednesday, May 23, 2018 - 1:42 PM

The annual WA Football Commission (WAFC) Footy Writing Competition sparked tremendous interest in schools across the State in Term One.

Four winners from Year 3 to Year 6 were announced and received a prize pack from Burley Sekem and earned their school a range of prizes:

Lucia Old from Carnley Anglican Community School (Year 3)
Cyrus Cargill from Gooseberry Hill Primary School Student (Year 4)
Rhania Khan from Perth College (Year 5) and
Emelia Bullers from East Fremantle Primary School (Year 6)

The students were set the task of writing a narrative using the following opening paragraph

We had heard about this player but had never seen them. Destined for the big time! They say, “one of the best kid footballers ever”. The best news: this budding super star was a girl. And she was moving to our school! She walked into the school yard...

The competition was used as a preparation tool for the NAPLAN tests held in the first school term.

WAFC Schools Specialist David Lindsay said he was impressed with the quality of the entries.

“It was fantastic to see the interest in the competition this year and the judges were very impressed with the students’ creativity.” Lindsay said.
