SWAN Districts consolidated top spot in the WAFL Colts beating Perth on Saturday while there were Round 9 wins also for Peel Thunder, East Perth and East Fremantle.

Three of the four Round 9 WAFL colts match ups took place on Saturday starting with Swan Districts consolidating top spot with a 13.6 (84) to 6.4 (40) win over Perth at Steel Blue Oval.

Peel Thunder then consolidated second position on the table with a 12.14 (86) to 7.8 (50) win against Claremont at Claremont Oval while East Perth downed an inaccurate West Perth 6.10 (46) to 3.15 (33) at Joondalup Arena.

The round concluded on WA Day with a Foundation Derby colts contest that saw East Fremantle remain in fourth position by beating South Fremantle 10.8 (68) to 8.6 (54) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Following nine rounds of the 2018 colts season, it's Swan Districts sitting on top of the ladder with a 6-2 record after its win over Perth on Saturday.

Peel Thunder (5-3) sits in second position ahead of Perth (5-3), East Fremantle (5-4) and Subiaco (4-3).

West Perth (3-5) is just outside the top five in front of South Fremantle (3-5), Claremont (3-5) and East Perth (2-6).

Round 10 in the colts sees all four matches take place this Saturday morning with Claremont against Swan Districts, Perth hosting South Fremantle, Peel Thunder taking on West Perth and Subiaco playing East Fremantle.

CLAREMONT v PEEL THUNDER

Peel Thunder consolidated second position on the WAFL colts ladder with a solid 36-point win against Claremont at Claremont Oval in Round 9 action on Saturday.

Peel started strongly with seven scoring shots to two in the opening quarter on Saturday morning at Claremont Oval, but the Thunder only kicked two goals from those opportunities and led by just 10 points by quarter-time.

That left the door open for the Tigers and the home team kicked three goals to two in the second term to cut Peel's advantage to four points at the long break.

Peel pulled away in the third quarter with three goals to one to be 18 points up at three quarter-time. It was then all the Thunder in the last term with five goals to two and they claimed the 12.14 (86) to 7.8 (50) win.

Jack Sears was a livewire in attack for Peel kicking three goals from nine kicks while the Thunder had another nine individual goal scorers.

Lachlan Riley picked up 20 possessions for Peel, Cameron Gavin 20, Jake Howes 18, Jackson Perry 15, Lee Chapman 15, Jarvis Pina 15 and Jacob Hewitt 15.

Billy Chambers also had 17 disposals, three marks and 24 hit outs.

Isaac Barton kicked two goals for Claremont from 12 possessions and five tackles.

Max Grant finished with 20 possessions for the Tigers, Jacob Dorsett-Sawyer 19 and Angus Longmire 16 to go with four marks, 16 hit outs and a goal.

 

SWAN DISTRICTS v PERTH

Swan Districts delivered an impressive colts performance at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday to come away with a 44-point victory over the previously league-leading Perth.

Swans improved to the top of the ladder with the 13.6 (84) to 6.4 (40) victory and they now sit a game and percentage clear in first spot.

Swan Districts kicked two goals to one in the first quarter at Steel Blue Oval and another two to one in the second term to lead by 14 points at half-time.

The game opened up in the third quarter with Swans kicking five goals to three from the Demons before Swan Districts kicked away in the last term with four goals to one for the 44-point win.

Joe Hinder kicked four goals from 16 possessions, five marks, five inside 50s and four tackles for Swan Districts. Patrick Farrant and Brenton Hilton also kicked two goals each while Hilton had 25 disposals and seven marks.

Riley Garcia also amassed 28 possessions for Swans to go with nine tackles while Mitchell Bain had 23 disposals, Sebastian Bright 20, Jackson Beck 19, Jake Pasini 19 and Jaygar Martin 19.

Zac Casey, Nyika John, Ethan Hansen, Alan Narkle, Jordan Johnson and Ashley Colbung were the goal scorers for Perth.

Casey also ended up with 23 possessions and seven tackles for the tackles while Maverick Hamilton compiled 23 touches, Hansen 22, Sydney Stack 19 (nine tackles) and Austin Davis 16.

 

WEST PERTH v EAST PERTH

The colts contest took place on Saturday afternoon at Joondalup Arena with East Perth beating West Perth by 13 points for its second win of the 2018 season.

With the earlier start to the WA Day Derby on the public holiday Monday, the colts contest was held as a standalone fixture on Saturday afternoon with the Royals managing to claim their second win of the season despite still sitting on the bottom of the table.

West Perth had its chances to start well with seven scoring shots in the opening quarter but they were all behinds. East Perth had just two scoring shots but kicked 1.1 with scores level at the first break.

It was more of the same in the second quarter and again the Falcons managed six scoring shots to just two from the Royals, but West Perth kicked 1.5 for the term and East Perth 1.1.

That saw the Falcons lead by four points at half-time despite only kicking one goal for the opening half.

The Royals were then able to kick two goals to one in the third quarter and two more goals to one in the last to come away with the 6.10 (46) to 3.15 (33) win over the Falcons.

Jarrod Hamer-Mathew kicked two goals for East Perth to go with 22 possessions and five entries inside the forward 50.

Thomas Baulch racked up 31 possessions, 10 marks and a goal for the Royals with Eric Bashemule also amassing 22 disposals, Cooper Sparks 18, Tyler Hoffman 18, Jacob Msando 16, Yugusuk Soka 16 and Egan Bradbury 16 to go with 16 hit outs and five marks.

Ben Johnson, Lachlan Rewell and Brayden Templeton were the three goal scorers for West Perth.

Alec Johnson finished with 23 possessions for West Perth, Jaxon Prior 21, Nathan Murray 19, Bailey Chalmers 17, Noah Clune 17, Graham Richards 16, Tom Medhat 16 and Kieran Fitzgerald 16.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE v EAST FREMANTLE

The WA Day Foundation Derby day started at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the colts contest that saw East Fremantle come away with a 14-point victory against South Fremantle.

South Fremantle made the flying start to the morning with four goals to one in the first quarter and the Bulldogs remained on top to the tune of 11 points at the half-time break.

But East Fremantle soon got on a roll kicking the only three goals of the third quarter and then four goals to three in the last to come away with the 10.8 (68) to 8.6 (54) victory.

Tom Wright kicked two goals to go with 11 possessions and 10 tackles for East Fremantle while Dylan Curley and Lukas Jones also kicked two goals apiece.

Tom Monaghan finished with 22 possessions for the Sharks, Josh Ritchie 20, Zac Wilkinson 17 and Nick Watson 17 along with 40 hit outs and four marks in the ruck.

Cody Smith worked hard as well for five kicks, five handballs and 10 tackles.

Lachlan Feeney booted three goals for South Fremantle from six kicks and four tackles.

Toby McQuilkin picked up 18 possessions for the Bulldogs, James Russell 18 (nine marks), Matthew Ward 18, Tom Blechynden 18, Manfred Kelly 17, Jack Musika 16 and Matthew Green 16.
