AFL School Ambassador Award FinalistsMonday, August 6, 2018 - 3:48 PM

WITH the AFL School Ambassador Awards fast approaching on August 9, 28 teachers from 28 schools will be vying to win one of six award categories.

AFL School Ambassadors are dedicated teachers and school staff who actively promote Australian Football at their school. Those who excel are recognised at the annual awards night.

West Australian Football Commission Executive Manager Engagement and Community Football Troy Kirkham said AFL School Ambassadors play a critical role in the promotion of football across both Primary and Secondary Schools.

"Importantly, we also see the role that AFL School Ambassadors can play in connecting school participants to community club football," he said.

"I would like to congratulate all the finalists for their efforts, energy and drive in their Schools as an AFL School Ambassador, and also recognise and thank all AFL School Ambassadors across Western Australia for the role that they play in promoting football."

With more than 100 award nominations in 2018 the judging team had the tough task of narrowing the field down to 28 finalists with six winners to be crowned across the six categories.

The categories include the prestigious Most Outstanding Primary AFL School Ambassador and Most Outstanding Secondary AFL School Ambassador, with the winner of both categories receiving a trip for two to Melbourne to watch an AFL final.

This year Wanneroo Secondary College teacher Thomas Moscarda will be aiming to make it three wins in a row in the Secondary School category after excelling in promoting and supporting football at his school.

The Primary School category will have a new winner with all five finalists having never previously won the award.

The other categories include Outstanding First Year AFL School Ambassador, Outstanding Indigenous AFL School Program, Outstanding Female AFL School Program and Outstanding Multicultural AFL School Program.

Winners of the AFL School Ambassador Awards will be announced at an awards night at Claremont Football Club on August 9.
