2014 WAFL FixturesSaturday, December 21, 2013 - 6:32 AM

FIXTURES have been finalised for the 2014 AAMI WAFL Premiership Season in consultation with the nine WAFL clubs.

Round 1 will kick off on Saturday, March 22 and the Grand Final will be played on Sunday, September 21.

The season will feature one less round than last year, with the split round being dropped for a 23 round total. Each club will play 10 home games, 10 away games and have three byes.

This will include a general bye for a WAFL State Game against the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) in Sydney on May 24.

KEY ROUNDS

  • Rd 1 – March 22 (4 games)
  • Rd 5 – Easter (2 Good Friday, 1 Easter Sunday)
  • Rd 6 – ANZAC Round (3 Friday)
  • May 24 – State Game
  • Rd 10 – WA Day (3 Monday games)
  • Rd 12 – Men's Health Round
  • Rd 15 – NAIDOC Round
  • Rd 21 – Count Me in Round
  • Grand Final – Sunday, September 21

WAFL Operations Manager Cameron Knapton said the fixtures had been scheduled to maximise attendance and focus on key rounds, while also meeting club requests and allowing for West Perth and East Perth to compete in the Foxtel Cup.

“A significant number of club requests have been met and exciting clashes scheduled for feature rounds,” Knapton said.

“This includes three games on the WA Day Monday public holiday, which doesn’t feature any AFL football this year, making it a great stand-alone day for the WAFL.

“Another priority was to achieve a consistent home and away flow for clubs wherever possible and limit away stretches to a maximum of three rounds for any one club,”

“I thank the WAFL clubs and WAFL Management Committee for their cooperation and contribution throughout the fixturing process and am looking forward to Round 1 kicking off on March 22,” he said.

The WAFL is also liaising with East Fremantle, Subiaco and Swan Districts to host games in regional areas in 2014 under the Country Sports Enrichment Scheme. Dates and venues will be advised as they are confirmed.
