U23s first test against WACFLThursday, May 29, 2014 - 1:07 PM

The West Coast Eagles State Amateur U23s will face their first test of the year on Friday night when they host the WA Country Football League at Anning Park, South Lake.

Friday’s game will be the first of two West Coast Eagles State Amateur under 23’s games, with the second game being the Australian Amateur Football Championship match against the South Australian Amateur Football League under 23-team on June 7that Kingsway Sporting Complex, Madeley.

Coach of the West Coast Eagles State Amateur under 23’s side Wayne Langborne said he was looking forward to watching how his team play in what is expected to be a highly competitive hit-out against the WACFL team.

“The one thing I know for sure is that they will be very hard at it… they will be physically stronger than us and they love nothing better than beating the Amo’s.”

“We are generally a bit quicker and it ends up being a contest between two distinctly different styles which makes interesting watching”

Langborne stated that the game against WACFL would be the major decider in who would and wouldn’t make the team against the South Australian team next week.

“The real purpose of the game is to give the WAAFL boys one last chance of impressing the selectors to gain a spot in the final squad to play the SAAFL.”

"The players are only as good as their last game so, with positions being hotly contested for, players need to perform” he said.

“From what I’ve seen so far we’ll have a good mix of quality talls and quick smalls and I’m expecting a reasonably high standard match.”

“Once boys at this level step onto the football field their competitive instincts kick in, which always ensures a good game of football”

In 2013 the WACFL were victorious by 25 points, a score this year’s West Coast Eagles State Amateur U23s will be looking to reverse.

The West Coast Eagles State Amateur Colts start their campaign against the WA State 16’s on Sunday 7th June at Medibank Stadium before taking on the WA Country Football League at Patersons Stadium on 14th June.

Bounce down for the West Coast Eagles State amateur under 23’s match against the WA Country Football League is at 6.45pm, Friday the 30th May.
