Round 13 McDonald's WAFL ResultsSunday, June 21, 2015 - 1:10 AM - by Chris Pike

SUBIACO saw off the challenge of Claremont in Round 13 of the WAFL on Saturday to remain three games clear on top of the ladder with West Perth consolidating second position, Swan Districts into third and East Perth fourth after all recorded victories.

The WAFL's top four teams now after Round 13 all recorded victories on Saturday afternoon as the league recognised Men's Health Round in conjunction with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Subiaco and Claremont both entered their clash at the Claremont Showground on significant winning streaks, but it was the Lions who proved too strong making it eight straight wins with the 10.15 (75) to 5.8 (38) victories.

West Perth and South Fremantle battled over the Garlic Munchers Cup at HBF Arena and it was the Falcons who prevailed to move clear in second position with a 9.17 (71) to 8.8 (56) win.

East Perth and East Fremantle were then trying to break into the top five, and the Royals beat the Sharks 14.10 (94) to 11.7 (73) at Medibank Stadium to move up into fourth spot.

Swan Districts then improved to third position with a solid 12.10 (82) to 7.9 (51) win over Perth at Lathlain Park.

Claremont had won its last five matches heading into its clash with Subiaco, but the Tigers were no match for the Lions who won by 37 points to remain clear on top of the WAFL ladder by three games and having now won eight matches in succession.

Scores were all tied up at quarter-time, but Subiaco kicked four goals to one in the second term and then the only three in the last to see off the challenge of a team that had been in terrific form.

Shane Yarran kicked three goals for Subiaco to give him 37 for the season to be leading the Bernie Naylor Medal race with Michael Wood kicking two and Sam Menegola again best afield with two goals to go with 29 possessions, eight tackles and seven inside-50 entries.

Chris Phelan also gathered 24 disposals for the Lions, returning captain Kyal Horsley 22 and Brett Robinson 18.

It was a tough afternoon for Claremont but Tom Ledger had 30 touches and Corey Yeo continued his outstanding form with 27 possessions while Keifer Yu had 24 disposals, Ryan Neates 24, Matthew Davies 22 and Jack Beeck 18.

West Perth moved a game clear in second position with the Falcons winning a second straight match beating South Fremantle by 15 points at HBF Arena to retain the Garlic Munchers Cup.

After an even first half with scores tied at the main break, West Perth dominated after half-time kicking four goals to three, but that only told part of the story with the Falcons having 16 scoring attempts six in the second half and could have won by a lot more with some straight kicking.

Kody Manning had a terrific first half for the Falcons kicking three goals with Corey Chalmers adding two. West Perth's defence was outstanding led by Marcus Adams and Nick Rodda who ensured that James Sellar and Josh Pullman kicked just one goal between them for the Bulldogs.

Sandover Medallist Aaron Black again led the way with 27 possessions while Andrew Strijk had 24 disposals, Matt Guadagnin 24, Steven Browne 23, Shane Nelson 23, Jay van Berlo 22 and Aidan Lynch 21.

Blayne Wilson was back to his outstanding form from the start of the season for South Fremantle with a commanding performance up against young West Perth key position player Tyler Keitel, with Wilson also finishing with 26 possessions and six marks.

Haiden Schloithe was the Bulldogs' only multiple goalkicker with four in his second game back from injury with Ashton Hams racking up 30 possessions, Ryan Cook 26, Marlion Pickett 22 and Tim Kelly 20 as he returned to form also.

East Perth bounced back from its loss to Peel Thunder last Sunday to have now won three of its last four matches by beating the struggling East Fremantle by 21 points.

The Sharks have now lost five straight matches to be losing touch with the top five while the win sees the Royals improve to third position on the ladder.

East Perth got off to a flying start with six goals to two in the first quarter and even though East Fremantle continued to fight hard, it was missing too many key players and the Royals always had enough in reserve to end up winning by the 21 points.

Mark Hutchings was terrific in the midfield for East Perth with 31 possessions and two goals in a best on ground display while Kane Lucas was again terrific with 30 disposals.

Steven Payne also had 28 touches for the Royals, Brendan Lee 24, Nathan Blee 21 and Craig Wulff 20 to go with two goals.

Eagles small forward Murray Newman kicked three goals for East Perth with Fraser McInnes also booting two while Paul Johnson was again terrific in the ruck with 16 disposals and 38 hit outs.

Liam Anthony and Cameron Eardley kicked two goals each for East Fremantle while racking up 27 and 25 possessions respectively with Rory O'Brien also amassing 33 disposals in his 100th game for East Fremantle, and 192nd overall.

Brock O'Brien finished with 26 touches for the Sharks as well, Sean Henson 21 and Danny Chartres was impressive with 19, six marks and a goal.

Swan Districts has now won two games straight having beaten East Fremantle last Sunday to now improve to a 6-5 record to jump into the top five following the 12.10 (82) to 7.8 (50) win over Perth.

Outside of the second quarter when Perth kicked five of its seven goals for the game, three of which courtesy of Callum Collard, the black-and-whites were in control with the only two goals of the first term, three to one in the third and then five to one in the last.

Veteran premiership forward Tim Geappen kicked three of Swans' first four goals with Matt Rogers, Matthew Jukes, Matt Riggio and Ricky Cary all chipping in with two apiece.

Jacob Burnham played the best game of his league career for Swans with 26 possessions while Aaron Elari had 25 disposals, Matt Riggio 25 and Ryan Davis 23 to go with 10 tackles. Ruckman Nathan Blakely worked hard for 15 touches and 44 hit outs.

Perth's forward-line missed the bite of the suspended Jarryd Morton who kicked seven goals last Sunday against Claremont, but his older brother Mitch and last year's leading goalkicker Callum Collard kicked three goals each for the Demons, combining for six of their seven goals.

Aidan Tropiano continued his fine season for Perth with 29 possessions with captain Dene White gathering 26 touches, Liam McKenna 25 and Jacob Payne 22.
