Saturday Round 19 McDonald's WAFL ResultsSunday, August 2, 2015 - 10:38 AM - by Chris Pike

CLAREMONT finished strongly to beat Swan Districts to replace them in the WAFL top five while Subiaco moved four games clear on top of the ladder and Perth won its second game of the season continuing East Fremantle's miserable run.

Three of the four Round 19 WAFL games took place on Saturday afternoon and the one that effected spots in the top five took place at the Claremont Showground and Claremont prevailed over Swan Districts 13.11 (89) to 10.14 (74) to replace the black-and-whites in fifth position.

South Fremantle fought bravely for three quarters against Subiaco at Medibank Stadium to keep its finals hopes alive, but the Lions kicked seven goals to one in the last quarter to win 16.8 (104) to 9.6 (60) to move four games clear on top of the ladder with a month of the home and away season to go.

The final game on Saturday was the battle of the two strugglers of 2015 and it was Perth who ended its 11-game losing run handing East Fremantle a ninth straight defeat with a 13.10 (88) to 10.9 (69) win at Lathlain Park.

The round will now conclude on Sunday afternoon at Medibank Stadium as the fourth-placed East Perth takes on the second-placed West Perth in the final derby of 2015 with plenty on the line.

On Saturday, Claremont and Swan Districts did battle over fifth position at the Showground and it turned out to be a terrific contest, but it was the Tigers who came home strongly to win by 15 points.

Claremont again started strongly as it has made a habit of in recent times with the only three goals of the first quarter, but by half-time Swan Districts had kicked four goals to one in the second term to take a two-point lead into half-time.

The Tigers had again taken the lead by three quarter-time thanks to six goals to three in the third stanza and were 19 points up at the last change, but Swans kicked the first three goals of the last term to take the lead and have all the momentum.

However, Claremont booted the last three goals of the game through Beau Maister, Corey Yeo and Jack Bradshaw to secure the 15-point win.

Maister finished with four goals for Claremont with Bradshaw booting three and Matthew Palfrey two.

Ryan Neates racked up another 33 possessions for the Tigers, Yeo 32, Jake Murphy 26, Tom Swift 23, Matthew Davies 23, Ryan Lim 22 and Ian Richardson 20.

Ricky Cary kicked three goals for Swan Districts with Rudy Riddoch adding two while Adam Faulkner amassed 33 possessions, Aaron Elari 32, Matt Riggio 29, Justin Simpson 24, Jacob Burnham 22, Nathan Broad 21 and Matt Rogers 21.

The day at Medibank Stadium got off to the worst possible start for South Fremantle with Subiaco full-forward Matt Boland marking on a lead and goaling inside four minutes, but that would be his only kick after coming off injured and the Bulldogs found something.

Goals to Cory Dell'Olio, Josh Pullman and Haiden Schloithe before quarter-time saw the Bulldogs take a surprise 13-point lead into the first change and they maintained their level throughout the second term.

Subiaco kicked three goals, but South Fremantle answered each with Jacob Dragovich bouncing through a beauty from the boundary, and Pullman marking strongly and kicking truly to have three to half-time with the Bulldogs still up by 12.

The Lions' charge came in the third term booting five goals to two with the Bulldogs only trailing by six points at the final change thanks to handy goals from Craig White and milestone man Ashton Hams.

It was all Subiaco in the final term with the raging premiership favourites kicking seven goals to one to win by 44 points.

Michael Wood stepped up in the absence of the injured Boland to kick five goals while Sam Menegola delivered yet another best on ground performance for the Lions with 35 possessions, 11 marks, eight inside 50s and three goals.

Kyle Halligan also kicked two goals for the Lions while Chris Phelan gathered 26 possessions, Scott Hancock 24, Brett Robinson 23, Kyal Horsley 21 and Clancy Wheeler 19 to go with nine hit outs and seven marks from centre half-forward.

Ashton Hams worked tirelessly for South Fremantle with 36 possessions and a goal in his 150th game while Jarrod Parry picked up 23 disposals, Tim Kelly 21, Anthony Collica 20 and Jacob Dragovich 19.

Josh Pullman provided a good target for the Bulldogs kicking three goals with Haiden Schloithe adding two.

Meanwhile at Lathlain Park in the battle of two teams on significant losing steaks, Perth's Brennan Stack and East Fremantle's Brock O'Brien were the stars up forward for their teams in the opening quarter kicking two goals apiece with scores all tied up at the first change.

Despite two more goals for East Fremantle through O'Brien, Perth got on top during the second term with majors to Jared Bell, Michael Sinclair and Liam McKenna to head into half-time with a five-point advantage.

Despite a fifth goal for O'Brien, Perth maintained an eight-point lead at the final change as tensions boiled over between two frustrated playing groups.

East Fremantle quickly snatched the lead to start the final term with goals to Liam Anthony and Rory O'Brien, but the Demons responded with the next two from Stack and Sinclair, and then Stack's fourth sealed the win for the home team to get their second victory of 2015, and first since Round 5.

East Fremantle has now lost nine in-a-row after starting the season well winning five of its first seven games, and remain winless under caretaker coach Brad Dodd.

Brennan Stack kicked four goals for Perth with Michael Sinclair, Liam McKenna and Callum Walley all adding two apiece.

McKenna also racked up 32 possessions for the Demons, Aidan Tropiano 31, Jarryd Morton 31, Brett Wolfenden 20, Dene White 19 and Todd Stevenson 19 while Jared Bell was outstanding in the back-line with 23 disposals, six marks and a goal.

Brock O'Brien kicked five goals for East Fremantle with Liam Anthony finishing with 35 disposals, Matthew Bannister 24, Rory O'Brien 23, Cameron Eardley 22 and Jamie McNamara 21. Rob Young worked hard for 18 touches and 31 hit outs.
