Ambassadors spend an afternoon with West Coast

A group of 60 AFL School Ambassadors improved their football knowledge and skills with the West Coast Eagles playing group on Monday, March 19.

The AFL School Ambassadors, who are responsible for promoting football in their respective schools, took part in skills-based drills instructed by West Coast players, before playing an Eagles Faction Footy game umpired and coached by West Coast players.

2011 Primary School Ambassador of the Year Award winner Marion Burt from Samson Primary School said it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved.

“I have supported the Eagles since they started so it’s exciting to meet them and learn about what they have to go through in their training and preparation,” she said.

“I love football and enjoy sharing it with the students, both the boys and the girls.”

Over 1100 WA teachers have been inducted into the AFL School Ambassador program by the West Australian Football Commission since 2004 with the aim of actively and positively promoting football in their schools.

The teachers are provided with training and resources to ensure students are engaged in safe and well organised physical activity focussing on health, nutrition, teamwork, enjoyment, social development, confidence, self-esteem and academic achievement.
