Term 2 of the Secondary school sporting calendar will mark the 25th season of Schoolboys Football in WA.
School Sport WA and the West Australian Football Commission have worked in close partnership for 24 years to deliver a quality competition and have continued the cooperative links between schools and the community.
To mark this special occasion, WA Football Legend Barry Cable was on hand as the WAFC and School Sport WA launched the 25th Year of the competition at a special function held at Patersons Stadium on Wednesday, March 28.
The WAFC also took this opportunity to unveil and welcome it’s new program sponsor – AFL SportsReady.
The AFL SportsReady Cup offers a well organised, efficient and high quality football competition that caters for over 3000 students from country and metropolitan schools. A competition of this size requires major support.
Over the 24-year journey 60,000 boys have participated in the AFL SportsReady Cup competition.
One feature of the AFL SportsReady Cup competition has been the opportunity to name patrons for each competition division. WA legends Barry Cable, Billy Walker, Ross Glendinning and Glen Jakovich proudly support this concept and thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to attend school fixtures.
2012 will see over 80 Senior High Schools battle it out in their respective divisions in the metro area as well as Senior High School Country week, with the pinnacle of the program the “Cable Division” Grand Final showcased as a curtain Raiser to the West Coast v Brisbane clash on Sunday July 29 .
The WAFC wishes all teams a rewarding year in the WAFC Schoolboys Cup competition.
