This includes the 13 players selected from WA clubs in the 2010 NAB AFL National Draft, three players added to AFL lists during 2010 trade week and the pre-selection of Brandon Matera by the Gold Coast.
Another three players were pre-selected for 2011 last week by Greater Western Sydney, which will add to WA’s 2011 Draft total.
Peel Thunder, which was already celebrating Harley Bennell’s number 2 selection in the NAB AFL National Draft, saw State 18s player Blayne Wilson (pictured) picked up with number 2 in the Pre-Season Draft. The exciting young talent will now commence his AFL career with West Coast.
East Fremantle’s draft success also continued, with the club adding number 2 Rookie Draft selection Rhys Cooyou from Geraldton to number 1 pick in the NAB AFL National Draft David Swallow. Cooyou will join Isiah Stevens (number 6 Rookie selection) from Swan Districts at the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
East Fremantle player Sam Menegola was also rookie-listed by Hawthorn at number 19, while another Geraldton and East Fremantle product in Jack Perham went to Collingwood at number 58.
Claremont’s strong draft record also continued with Anton Hamp rookie-listed by West Coast at number 27, Michael Evans selected by Melbourne with pick 31 and Jeremy McGovern rookie-listed by West Coast at number 44.
South Fremantle and Perth also had players rookie-listed by AFL clubs, seeing six of the WAFL’s nine clubs represented across the 14 selections.
