State 18s fight to the finish

WESTERN Australia completed its 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships campaign with a three-goal loss to South Australia at Etihad Stadium yesterday (July 6).

WA was in front by four points heading into the last quarter but couldn't hold off a fast-finishing South Australian side, which kicked seven goals to three in the final term to claim an 18-point win.

A highlight for WA was the presentation of the Larke Medal to captain Stephen Coniglio, pictured, as the overall Division One best and fairest.

State 16s heading to National Championships

WESTERN Australia’s State 16s depart for Sydney on Wednesday July 6 to play in Division One of the 2011 NAB AFL 16s Championship at Blacktown Olympic Park.

The squad will train at Blacktown on Thursday and Charles McLaughlin Reserve on Friday in preparation for their first game against Victoria Metro on Saturday.

WA then plays Victoria Country on Tuesday, July 12 and returns to Perth following the final Division One game against South Australia on Friday, July 15.

State 18s defated by Vic Country

WESTERN Australia's State 18s were defeated by Victoria Country at Skilled Stadium in Geelong on Friday, July 1.

WA is now preparing to play South Australia on Wednesday, July 6, at Etihad Stadium at 5.30pm WST, which will be broadcast on Fox Sports.

WA defeated the Northern Territory and Tasmania in their first two games of the Championships, before losing to Victoria Metro and Victoria Country to split their results at two wins and two losses.

State 18s set for Vic Country, South Australia

WESTERN Australia’s State 18s head to Melbourne this week for the final two games of their 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships campaign.

WA will line up against Victoria Country at Skilled Stadium in Geelong on Friday, July 1, and take on South Australia on Wednesday, July 6, at Etihad Stadium, which will be broadcast live on Fox Sports from 5.30pm WST.

WA defeated the Northern Territory and Tasmania in their first two games of the Championships, before losing to Victoria Metro in a close contest at Patersons Stadium a fortnight ago.

Vic Metro overrun State 18s

WESTERN Australia’s State 18s were defeated by Victoria Metro in a close contest at Patersons Stadium last weekend, with the Victorians kicking four goals to two in the last quarter to claim a 10-point win.

The 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships fixture was played as the curtain-raiser to the West Coast Eagles and Port Adelaide AFL game on Sunday, June 19.
