Future AFL stars shine in Indigenous carnival

Indigenous youths from across the state will put their football talent on show at the 2013 Nicky Winmar Carnival.

This event features teams of under-15’s playing in a round-robin style event at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah on Sunday, March 3.

Coordinated by the West Australian Football Commission and sponsored by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the carnival provides an opportunity for talented young players to be identified by WAFL clubs and given the opportunity to further develop their skills.

New State 16s Academy coach appointed

The West Australian Football Commission has appointed experienced development coach John Hancock as the head coach of the State 16s Talent Academy for 2013.

The Level 3 Accredited coach has 16 years of experience coaching youth footballers and was State 18s Assistant Coach last year and an Assistant Coach for the State 16s in 2010 and 2011.

Hancock’s first official duty in his new role will commence on Saturday, February 2 when the State Academy hosts a WA Talent day at Joondalup.

Sign up now for the Nicky Winmar Carnival

WA's most talented Indigenous football players will be selected for the U15 State Indigenous Squad when the Nicky Winmar Football Carnival is held at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah in March.

The Nicky Winmar Carnival will be played on Sunday March 3, 2013 and include 12 teams from across WA representing WAFL Metro and Regional zones.

WA State Talent Academy 1st intake

The first intake of players for WA’s 2013 State 16s and 18s Talent Academy programs will be formally inducted by The West Australian Football Commission on Monday, December 10.

The group of 16 players from eight WAFL clubs will be involved in a series of training and screening sessions over the next three months in the lead up to the 2013 season.

Sessions will focus on leadership, strength and conditioning, medical screening, individual analysis of kicking technique and developing an understanding of the WA game style.

WAFC congratulates WA Draftees

THE West Australian Football Commission congratulates the 12 WA players selected in the 2012 NAB AFL National Draft on the Gold Coast.

This is in addition to the pre-selection of top WA talents Jaeger O’Meara (Gold Coast / Perth) and Tom Lee (St Kilda / Claremont) for 2013, and Jesse Hogan (Melbourne / Claremont) and Jack Martin (Gold Coast / Claremont) for 2014.
