The Falcons will run out wearing a replica of the jumper worn in its first ever premiership back in 1897. The jumper bears the design of the one worn by the club in a year when it went through undefeated. To add to the uniform the club will also have its players wearing red shorts.
West Perth has invited its past players to watch the game from a grassy bank at Arena Joondalup where they can catch up, reminisce about old times and watch a great game of football against the club's traditional rivals.
"The Heritage Round was something West Perth was really keen to embrace and we look forward to it becoming an annual event," said West Perth CEO Ken Torrance.
"With there being no AFL games on this weekend we hope that all of our supporters will come out in force and watch should be a fantastic encounter."
To add to the day, the club's 2007 ball legend, Alan Watling will toss the coin before the start of the league game. Watling, a 284-game veteran, triple premiership player, five-time State representative and 1972 All Australian wingman was a popular choice as this year's club legend.
The Falcons are also giving a lucky supporter an opportunity to win one of the limited edition 1897 jumpers signed by the 2007 league team. To win they simply need to fill out the coupon found on the club page in the Football Budget and drop the entry form into the bin provided at the entrance gate. The draw will take place at the club's post match presentations.
The club will be selling the rest of the jumpers worn on the day through an online auction which will start immediately after the league game as part of the post-match presentations. The auction will continue through the club's website for a further two weeks. Part proceeds from the sale of the jumpers will be donated back to the club's junior district. For more information please ring the club.
Perth will wear the jumper it wore in 1934 and 1935 seasons when the club was known as Victoria Park. The Demons chose this design because if its close links and strong working relationship with the Town of Victoria Park.
Taking a look back into the early 1970s and the Lions will don the jumper worn in their premiership year of 1973. That was the year they broke their 49-year premiership drought, having last won the flag in 1924.
Dennis Blair, the Simpson Medallist from that 1973 grand final will toss the coin, while the Lions Heritage jumpers will be auctioned after the game.
