AAMI WAFL Premiership season Round 17 preview

THREE games on Saturday afternoon make up Round 17 of the 2011 WAFL season and each encounter could have a big bearing on finals positions come September.

South Fremantle will look to retain hope of a top-two finish and go some way to securing a finals spot up against top-of-the-table West Perth at Arena Joondalup.

Reigning premier Swan Districts needs to beat Peel at Steel Blue Oval to stay in the hunt of a spot in the four while East Perth also hosts Perth at Leederville's Medibank Stadium.

Claremont takes on Port Adelaide in a semi-final of the Foxtel Cup on Saturday afternoon at Subiaco's Patersons Stadium while Subiaco and East Fremantle have the bye.

Claremont excited for home Foxtel Cup clash with Magpies

CLAREMONT takes on the SANFL's Port Adelaide in a semi-final of the Foxtel Cup this Saturday at Patersons Stadium with a grand final berth at stake and Tigers' veteran utility Trinity Handley can't wait to get out there on Subiaco to take on the Magpies.

The Tigers currently sit in second place on the WAFL ladder with a 10-4 record and have recorded dominant wins over their first two Foxtel Cup clashes firstly over Tasmanian side Clarence at Bellerive Oval and then against the VFL's Northern Bullants on the Gold Coast.

Port Adelaide remains in finals contention in the SANFL and has beaten the East Coast Eagles by 92 points and then North Adelaide by 16 in its first Foxtel Cup clashes.

Tallan Ames reflects on why he bleeds black-and-white

TALLAN Ames grew up with black-and-white in his veins as a Swan Districts supporter and living in Bassendean and now as he approaches his 150th game with his beloved club he reflects on being tremendously proud of the way Swans' have turned into a power on and off the field.

Ames still remembers living around the corner from Steel Blue Oval as he was a youngster and coming down to watch Swan Districts play and from a very young age he dreamed of pulling on a black-and-white jumper.

Not only has he been able to do that, but this Saturday when he runs out against Peel he will do it for the 150th time in a career that has seen him play in last year's premiership, represent Western Australia twice and be a key part of the club's success in recent seasons.

Scarborough product travels 1500km to make WAFL debut


George Hampson arrived at Subiaco Football Club’s 2011 pre-season training as an unknown in terms of football pedigree; however his consistent form in the Reserves in the 2011 season has been something that has made the coaching staff stand up and take notice. 

The pathway that Hampson has taken to achieve his dream of playing WAFL league football has not been conventional by any means.  He played his junior football with Scarborough in the Claremont district.  From that point it is an amazing story that he has continued playing football.
