South West Football League has firmly established themselves as a powerhouse in women’s country football.

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 Nutrien Ag Solutions Women’s Country Championship, South West Football League (SWFL) secured their fifth consecutive title in Mandurah on Friday, cementing their legacy as the dominant force in the competition.

Brent Sheridan, Manager Country Football – South congratulated South West and all the leagues who travelled to Mandurah for the two-day event.

“This year’s Championship was a fantastic spectacle, with eight leagues coming together and showcasing the incredible talent across women’s country football,” xx said.

“To see such passionate and skilled players from all over Western Australia compete against each other is what makes this event so special.

“It really highlights the strength and growth of women’s football in the regions.”

They took on Peel Football Netball League, who were undefeated throughout the Championships, in the grand final and came away victorious with a comprehensive 5.1 (31) to 1.3 (9) win.

Peel, who had been in excellent form throughout the championships, struggled to match South West’s intensity and structure, particularly in the midfield, whilst up forward South Bunbury’s Zoe Huggett (SWFL) was a standout. Huggett’s two goals earned her the Grand Final’s Fairest and Best award.

Bunbury’s Daisy Rigby was a stand out on Day 1 of the Championships which was enough to see her named the U21 Rising Star of the Championships, while their coach, Max Jetta was named Coach of the Championships.

South West were rewarded for their efforts with five of their players selected in the Nutrien Ag Solutions Women’s Championship All Stars team.

In Division 1, Great Northern Football League’s Gemma Dix put in stellar performances throughout the two-day event and was recognised as the Championships Fairest and Best for her division.

Meanwhile, Division 2 saw Great Southern Football League triumph over Esperance with a 3.1 (19) to 1.0 (6) victory.

Railways FC’s Kathryn Slattery was a game-changer in the match, securing the Grand Final Best on Ground award, while Esperance’s Alysha Castelli claimed the Championships Fairest and Best honour across Division 2.
