South West Triumph at Country Champs

This year’s Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships was not just a celebration of country football but a celebration of a 50-year partnership between Country Football WA and Nutrien Ag Solutions.

The four-day Carnival attracted hundreds of footballers from around the state, featuring colts and league players.

South West Football League turned the tables on last year’s Men’s Division 1 result with an 11-point win over Avon Football Association.

While Peel was able to hold back a resurgent SWFL to claim a three-point win in the CBH Group Colts Grand Final.

Last year’s Division 2 runners-up Great Northern Football League went one better with a 36-point win over Central Midlands Coastal and in Division 3 Great Southern remained undefeated across the Championships, defeating a gallant Esperance in the decider.

Brent Sheridan, West Australian Football Commission Manager Country Football – South, was impressed with the standard of the competition.

“It was amazing to see both the standard and competitiveness at this year’s championships,” Sheridan said.

“In Division 1 alone three games were decided by a solitary point which is quite remarkable.

“We now look forward to all those players and umpires that took part in the championships heading back better for the experience and seeing that translate into some high-quality football for their home communities.

“The championships are such a large undertaking each year and would not be possible without the support of our naming rights partner Nutrien Ag Solutions.

“50 years of support is amazing and, like the Championships themselves, we can’t wait to see that go from strength to strength into the future”.

Winning the trifecta, Bailey Taylor this year capped off his third Country Championships Grand Final win across three different divisions. In 2022, he won Division 1 Grand Final with South West Football League, in 2023 he won Division 2 with Goldfields Football League and this year claimed the Division 3 Grand Final with Great Southern Football League.
