WAFLW"
Some of the state’s best young male and female football talent will participate in the upcoming WAFC Summer Program.
Pre-Season Training Squads have been announced, with more than 80 young athletes, aged between 17 and 19, selected to participate in a three-month program that kicks off at the end of November and runs through until February.
WAFC State Talent Manager Adam Jones is delighted to introduce 42 players to the male program, plus three teenagers in a train on group and three development players.
“We want the state’s best players training together for longer working with our full-time coach and Strength and Conditioning staff,” Jones said.
“This will allow us to drive standards and behaviour that will improve a player’s development and prepare them for football at higher levels.”
Trent Cooper, Manager Female Talent Programs and Coaching Specialist at the West Australian Football Commission, has declared the importance of the program for the 36 female participants ahead of 2025.
“We are aiming to give the players the best preparation possible for the upcoming season,” Cooper said.
“Training with the best footballers of their age will ensure they are challenged at every session and are ready to impact the WAFLW competition when they return to their clubs before the start of that season.”
Cooper believes the program delivers great variety for the players.
“Our first session will be on the 23rd of November, and we will be having three sessions per week rotating between Tuart College and Subiaco Oval with a camp at Busselton in late January,” he said.
“The players will return to their WAFLW clubs two weeks before the start of that season so they can assimilate back in with their WAFLW teammates.”
