The West Australian Football League has advised all clubs of an exclusion period for Round 1 pre-season games between 12.30pm and 3.30pm tomorrow (Saturday, February 25) under the WAFL Heat Policy.

Clubs were advised earlier in the week of the implementation of the WAFL Heat Policy for the coming weekend along with an outline of key areas of consideration given the impending conditions.

WAFC Executive Manager Football Operations Jon Haines said that with temperatures forecast to exceed 38 degrees tomorrow, games must either be fully completed by 12.30pm or start after 3.30pm.

“The welfare of our players and umpires is an absolute priority so we have made the decision to implement an exclusion period during the hottest part of the day tomorrow to minimise the risk of heat stress,” Haines said.

“We will continue to monitor weather forecasts throughout the WAFL pre-season and liaise with clubs and officials to ensure we are the taking appropriate measures to ensure the welfare of players and umpires.”
