AFL Nines

Social footy for everyone!

AFL Nines is footy that fits real life. It’s fast-paced, action-packed and played once a week. No tackling, no training, no pressure, and no lost weekends. Just 9 weeks of social, inclusive fun for all abilities and genders, in a safe and welcoming environment where everyone respects the rules, venue and each other.

What are the rules of AFL Nines?

The game involves two teams of nine players each, including interchange players.

The field’s length is typically recommended to be 100 meters, although this can be adjusted based on the participant’s age and skill level. The field is divided into three zones: a middle zone and two scoring zones.

Teams earn points by kicking the football into their offensive scoring zone, where designated forwards, and only they, are allowed to score.

A mark is granted regardless of how far the ball has been kicked. If the ball makes contact with the ground, possession is immediately turned over to the opposing team.

AFL Nines is a modified version of the game that emphasises non-contact play, with players using touches instead of tackles.
