Nominations are now open for the 2024 WA Football Volunteer of the Year Awards.

WA’s Mark Delane was named one of the WA Football Volunteer of the Year in 2023 for his work at the Dunsborough Football Club.

“It was a strange feeling as those who volunteer do it because they are willing to help out and support their community in any way they can,” he said.

“I was at the helm when we went through a merger of three local clubs into the Dunsborough Football Club, which meant expanding the club rooms and growing from 15 to 30 teams.

“One area which stands out is that being nominated and winning was also an acknowledgement to the amazing support I have from my family to help the footy club.”

Delane has stressed the importance of a team effort on and off the field.

“I know that people who volunteer aren’t looking for acknowledgement or validation, but I think knowing they are valued is invaluable,” he said.

Clubs and leagues in WA can submit individuals across 9 categories ranging from Volunteer of the Year, Disability and Inclusion Ambassador and Young Community Volunteer.

The 9 categories for the 2024 WA Football Volunteer of the Year Award are:

WA Football Volunteer of the Year

NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer

Senior Club Coach

Junior Club Coach

Community Umpiring Service

Disability & Inclusion Ambassador

AFL School Ambassador

Diversity Ambassador

Young Community Volunteer

The overall winner of the WA Football Volunteer of the Year will receive $4,000 and a one-year subscription to the Sunday Times.

The winning nomination from Western Australia will join other states and territories at the end of the season as contenders for the 2024 Toyota AFL National Volunteer of the Year Award.

For the first time in the AFL Award’s history two winners nationally will walk away with a brand new Toyota vehicle including recipients of the Toyota AFL Community Volunteer of the Year and Toyota AFL Young Leader of the Year.
