The West Coast Eagles have resumed a campaign to promote football in metropolitan schools and junior football clubs.
Almost the entire Eagles Men’s squad attended nine education support centres yesterday, with each centre representing one WAFL district.
Regan Atkinson, Schools Specialist at the West Australian Football Commission, welcomed the resumption of the Eagles involvement.
“It was fantastic to see the West Coast Eagles back in the community visiting education support centres.
It is great to see face-to-face engagement back on the AFL clubs’ agendas, as we return to the activations we used to know and love in pre-COVID times.
All of the players were outstanding at engaging and interacting with the students, whether it was demonstrating football skills, joining fun games the teachers had organised, completing classroom visits or assisting students with different fundamental movement activities.
We saw how much joy and excitement the visit brought to the students’ faces, and we hope that many of these children will sign up to play footy at their local Starkick centre in 2023,” Atkinson said.
The two-hour visits provide the platform to grow junior football on several fronts.
“The aim is to engage with students at education support centres who don’t necessarily receive types of opportunities regularly.
We also want to increase awareness around the WAFC’s Starkick program,” he said.
In addition, the meet and greet created awareness of the AFL for new participants or fans, in addition pushing the brand of the West Coast Eagles with the prospect of growing the club’s fan base.
