Passion for footy extends to the classroom

Narelle Scott is a passionate driver of WA Football in the community and in the classroom. The Tuart Rise Primary School music specialist is not the first person most would think is the school’s AFL School Ambassador, not to mention the ‘2014 Most Outstanding Female Program’ category winner in the WA Ambassador of the year awards.

Narelle teachers from Kindy through to Year 6 and is currently coaching both the girls and boys teams for the 2015 Dockers Cup.

She also runs before school programs where the students are taught umpiring and football skills and in addition to all of that, she is helping to organise an AFL themed week at the school.

As a music teacher she also manages to bring AFL into the classroom environment, with students singing their favourite AFL team song if they were winners from the weekend.

With a high multicultural population at the school, Narelle said many of the students hadn’t played football before.

“It’s exciting to introduce AFL programs to them for the first time,” she said.

“I also feel privileged to be able to promote female football to the primary school girls as their number one sport, which now has a pathway right through to the AFL.”

As such a busy lady in the school environment, it is amazing that Narelle’s passion and drive doesn’t stop there. She is also the team manager for the State 16 School Girls with School Sport WA, sits on the East Fremantle DFDC as the senior club and female representative and is also the women’s reserves captain at the East Fremantle Sharks, currently playing her eighth season in the WAWFL.

This AFL School Ambassador certainly does her part in the school and community.
