Top Dogs earn week off as finals fixtures locked in

South Fremantle have earned a week off after a dominant home-and-away season saw them finish two-and-a-half games ahead of second-placed Claremont.

The minor won their 14th game in a row on Saturday, disposing of the bottom-placed West Coast by 87 points at Mineral Resources Park to finish with a staggering 17-1 record.

The Bulldogs host the winner of Saturday’s Qualifying Final between Claremont and East Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium the following Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval for direct entry into the Grand Final at Optus Stadium on Sunday, September 21.

The Tigers and Royals faced off in the final rounds of regular-season fixtures on Saturday with Claremont coming back from 26 points down at half-time to prevail by nine.

East Fremantle locked in a home Elimination Final against Perth at The Good Grocer Park on Sunday after easily accounting for West Perth by 72 points at home on Saturday.

The Royals, Sharks and Demons all finished with 11-7 home-and-away records but East Perth’s superior percentage earned them a double chance.

Perth ended their regular season on a high, beating Subiaco by 40 points at Sullivan Logistics on the way to just their second finals campaign since 1998.

In the final game of Round 20, reigning premiers Peel Thunder dominated after half-time against Swan Districts to win by 54 points at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah.

The Thunder won’t get a chance to defend their title, finishing three-and-a-half wins outside of the top-five in sixth position.

Both week one Sullivan Logistics WAFL fixtures will be live on Channel 7.

League: East Fremantle v Perth, Elimination Final, 2.10pm

Reserves: South Fremantle v Swan Districts, Qualifying Final, 11.25am

Colts: West Perth v Swan Districts, Elimination Final, 8.50am
