State Talent and Draft"
A dozen of WA’s best Draft prospects will take the next step towards their AFL dream when they participate in this weekend’s NAB AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne.
The Combine brings together the best players in the country for a series of athletic tests.
It’s also an opportunity for recruiters to interview players and get their medical staff to screen them.
WAFC State Talent Manager Adam Jones has declared the Combine an important stage of the drafting process.
“Having 12 players head across is a good result, and while it doesn’t guarantee a player will get drafted, it’s a good sign that clubs have a strong level of interest in the player,” Jones said.
The Combine will be staged at three venues.
Marvel Stadium – registration, apparel distribution, AFL Club interviews, medical screening, and meals
Margaret Court Arena – Physical testing
AIA Centre – 2km time trial and Combine conclusion/presentation
The AFL has invited 67 players to the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine
Among the physical tests include the vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20 metre sprint, agility test and a 2km time trial.
WAFC Talent Program Coordinator Kate Hartwell is delighted for those who’ll take part in the event.
“This weekend is a big opportunity for WA players that have been selected to participate in the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine.
WA players will be showcasing their skills and being tested in a mix of athletic and fitness testing.?
This will allow these prospective draftees, that have already been identified by AFL clubs an opportunity to display their athletic prowess and give clubs an insight into who they are through the interview process.
The combine is a crucial step for any player on their pathway to the draft.?
It’s an exciting time for WA Footy and the WA Football Commission to showcase the talent from the 2022 cohort and hope that it’s a successful draft year for the State,” Hartwell said.
The Combine will run from Friday October 7 to Sunday October 9 and will be the first time a National Combine has been held for three years.
