State Talent and Draft"
WA has named a 34-player squad for the upcoming Marsh AFL National Championships -U18 Girls.
East Fremantle FC and South Fremantle FC have the most representatives with both clubs having seven players selected.
Trent Cooper, Manager Female Talent Programs and Coaching Specialist at the West Australian Football Commission, is optimistic about the potential of the group.
“This year’s squad is the best prepared we have had going into a National Championships,” Cooper said.
“We have a good mix of top end talent with our draft age players and a strong cohort of under-agers who have already proven that they can match it with older athletes.
“We have a nice mix of developing tall players to go with our versatile midfielders who are also capable of hitting the scoreboard.
“Our backline was a strength at last year’s Championships and most of them were under-agers who are returning for this campaign, so we expect that group to perform strongly again.
Despite having four first-choice players unavailable because of injury or international sporting commitments, Cooper is confident the side can cover those losses.
“We now have the depth in WA to cover their absence and we are expecting to put up a great showing in our three games against Queensland, Vic Country and South Australia.”
Coached by Brisbane Lions premiership player Beau McDonald, WA opens its campaign against Queensland at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday, August 3.
