Women from football boards and organisations came together to develop actions plans and strategies to promote and support women interested in being elected onto football boards, as part of the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) Women in Football Seminar held earlier this month.

The WAFC Women in Football group is a leadership initiative established by the WAFC to promote and support women on boards and working in senior positions in the football industry.

The group is championed by WAFC Commissioner Hon. Cheryl Edwardes AM and is made up of more than 20 female football board directors and senior managers.

Current statistics show both AFL Clubs (West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers) have at least one female board member, while five out of the nine WAFL clubs have at least one female board member. Country and Masters Football and the WA National Football League Umpires Association have no women board representatives.

The seminar was facilitated by Alicia Curtis from Alyceum and was attended by the following members:

Hon Cheryl Edwardes AM – Commissioner, WA Football Commission
Kerry Harris – Executive Manager Corporate Services, WA Football Commission
Sally Allomes – Board Director, WA Women’s Football League
Sue Murphy – Board Director, Fremantle Football Club
Nicole Horrocks – HR Manager, Fremantle Football Club
Kaye Maskiell – Board Director, Claremont Football Club
Kerryn Batten – Board Director, East Fremantle Football Club
Renee Hardman – Board Director, Peel Thunder Football Club
Paula Barnden – Marketing & Sponsorship, Peel Thunder Football Club
Kristi Annear – Board Director, Perth Football Club
Cathy VanderWeide – Board Director, Perth Football Club
Carleen Pallister – Secretary, Metropolitan Football League
Janelle Cutherbertson – Female Engagement Coordinator, WACA
