WAFL Grand Final teams and preview

THE biggest day of the year is upon us on Sunday for the 2017 WAFL Grand Final between Peel Thunder and Subiaco at Domain Stadium with a massive day of celebrations planned for what will be the last official football match at Subiaco Oval.

It’s a rematch of last year’s decider as well and it shapes as a fascinating, heated and ferocious WAFL Grand Final with Peel attempting to make history winning back-to-back premierships while the Lions are desperate to make up for last year’s defeat.

Subiaco is playing in its fourth straight WAFL Grand Final having now been minor premiers three years running. The Lions won premierships in 2014 and 2015 before coming up short against Peel in 2016.

Subiaco finished the home and away season on top of the ladder with a 19-1 record on a 19-game winning streak before losing to Peel in the second semi-final. But the Lions bounced back to beat South Fremantle in last week’s preliminary final.

Peel is now playing in its second ever Grand Final and is on a six-game winning streak in finals dating back to the four victories last year and then beating South Fremantle and Subiaco in 2017 on the way to earning the break last week having earned a Grand Final berth.

Bounce down for the Grand Final will be 2.50pm on Sunday and before that will be a parade of legends celebrating the history of football at Subiaco Oval.

The Grand Final will be telecast live on Channel 7, streamed on Footy Radio and also broadcast live on ABC Radio, 882 6PR, 91.3 SportFM and KIX Digital.

Grand Final day begins with the colts clash at 8.40am with East Fremantle playing Claremont. Then in the reserves at 11.20am it will be South Fremantle up against Subiaco.

Both the reserves and colts Grand Finals will be streamed live via Footy Radio.
