All set for WAFL State Game

THE West Australian Football League State Game will go ahead at 2.15pm this Saturday, June 18, after Queensland confirmed this morning that their flight would depart on time from Brisbane.

Uncertainty surrounding Queensland’s flight to Perth due to the volcanic ash cloud that has affected flight schedules around Australia has been put to rest and the team will arrive at approximately 1pm tomorrow. They will train at Bendigo Bank Stadium from 4-5pm.

Queensland has made a late change to its squad, with Todd Grayson from Labrador replaced by Reece Toye from Aspley. Toye, who is an in-and-under midfielder, is the son of ex-Wilston-Grange and Queensland 200-game centreman Garry Toye.

Daniel Wise, who has played 126 games for Southport will captain Queensland, while Paul Shelton from Morningside and Cameron Ilett from the Northern Territory Thunder will be vice captains.

The WAFL State Team will be lead by West Perth skipper Jason Salecic, who will assume sole leadership duties for the game, with vice captains not being appointed in 2011.

The State Game day will also feature exhibition games and form part of the official opening of the redeveloped Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, concluding a week of football celebrations for the entire Peel region.

This will include a WA State 20s v Indigenous All-Stars game at 5.20pm, with former Fremantle Dockers teammates Paul Hasleby and Des Headland to coach each side respectively. Headland has also secured the services of Dockers players Roger Hayden and Michael Walters for the Indigenous All-Stars side.
