State Talent and Draft"
The AFL has today released the names of 8 WA players invited to attend the 2023 AFLW Draft Combine.
The 2023 AFLW Draft Combine will showcase the country’s most talented draft-age female footballers and will again be held across multiple locations across Australia throughout September and October.
Coaching Specialist – Talent Pathways at the West Australian Football Commission, Trent Cooper, believes the local players deserve their place at the Combine.
“A lot of the females have battled injury problems at different stages through the year, but they’ve remained diligent and have been rewarded,” Cooper said.
“After a very short rest, the group will train together with the 18’s boys to prepare for the combine which will be held on October 15.”
All eight players invited represented WA at this year’s National Championships,
“Kaitlyn Srhoj, Georgie Cleaver and Jaimee Henry are part of the AFL National Academy and were identified early as being AFLW prospects and it has been pleasing to see five other players join them as combine invites,” he said.
The events hosted in WA, Victoria, and South Australia will be held in conjunction with the boys’ AFL State Draft Combines being held in those states.
Physical testing to be conducted will include the vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20-metre sprint, agility test and 2km time trial.
All 83 players invited to attend the 2023 AFLW Draft Combine are eligible to be selected in the 2023 AFLW Draft which will be held following the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.
Selection was based on the number of nominations provided by AFLW recruiters, with all 18 clubs submitting a list of preferred attendees.
All states and territories have representatives invited to attend.
