There’s some exciting talent running around in the EGT WAFL Colts this season. We take a look at the 25 players to watch ahead of the new season, which kicks off on Thursday night.

Koby LeCras

Club: West Perth

From: Cervantes/Manning JFC

Position: Key forward

Height: 192cm

Age: 17

LeCras is an exciting tall talent who has goal-kicking in the genes with uncle Mark one of West Coast’s best ever forwards and father Brent a former North Melbourne player who also kicked more than 150 goals in the WAFL for West Perth.

The 192cm key forward is an aerial threat inside attacking 50 who can take a strong contested mark.

The 2024 Under-16s All-Australian is heading into his third year of colts footy after making his debut as a 16-year-old, kicking a total of 19 majors across 14 appearances.

Was named as an emergency for the Falcons’ seniors in the pre-season, so a strong start to the season could see him called up for higher honours.

Heath Mellody

Club: Claremont

From: Wembley Downs JFC

Position: Midfielder

Height: 181cm

Age: 17

The prolific midfielder enjoyed a brilliant EGT WAFL Colts finals campaign for Claremont, capped off by a starring role in their grand final win over South Fremantle at Optus Stadium, racking up 28 disposals, eight marks and booting a goal.

Mellody averaged more than 23 disposals and five tackles per game in his debut season in the colts, and also managed to hit the scoreboard with six majors.

He’s a hard-working player with good skills who can play inside midfield or wing.

Benji van Rooyen

Club: Claremont

From: Wembley Downs JFC

Position: Ruck

Height: 203cm

Age: 17

The younger – and taller – brother of Melbourne forward Jacob is already making a name for himself, leading the WA under-18s ruck division as a bottom-ager last year.

Van Rooyen played all four games for WA in the AFL National Under-18s Championship and finished the season with an important role for Claremont colts in their grand final upset against the Bulldogs.

The 17-year-old is already a whopping 203cm and is shaping up as one of the leading ruck prospects in the country this year.

Garrison Kenh

Club: East Perth

From: Ellenbrook JFC

Position: Half-back

Height: 181cm

Age: 17

Kenh is an athletic left-footer who provides plenty of rebound from defensive 50 and reads the play well.

The East Perth talent was one of four West Aussies named in the AFL Academy intake for 2026 alongside Heath Mellody, Koby LeCras and Benji van Rooyen.

He’s also part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, meaning the Eagles get priority access to him in the draft.

Leo Steed

Club: Swan Districts

From: South Perth JFC

Position: Midfielder

Height: 177cm

Age: 17

Steed is another young gun who earned Under-16s All-Australian honours back in 2024, alongside Koby LeCras, Lucas Robinson and Garrison Kenh.

The 17-year-old was a consistent contributor for Swan Districts colts last season, averaging 16 disposals and six tackles per game.

Don’t be surprised if he gets a look in for some early senior footy and getting a taste of it during the pre-season and not looking out of place.

Cooper Ramsay

Club: East Fremantle

From: Palmyra JFC

Position: Ruck

Height: 202cm

Age: 18

If it wasn’t for season-ending shin stress fractures, Cooper Ramsay may be on an AFL list already.

Despite barely being sighted in 2025, the East Fremantle ruckman was invited to the WA State Draft Combine.

The soccer convert is part of WA’s Summer Squad and is set to feature as an over-ager in next year’s AFL National Under-18s Championship after missing out this year due to injury.

Harvey Spawton-Guy

Club: West Perth

From: Ocean Ridge JFC

Position: Key forward

Height: 194cm

Age: 17

Spawton-Guy is a goal-kicking tall forward with an excellent set of hands.

The Ocean Ridge JFC product booted 26 goals in 17 colts games this season in a breakout campaign for the Falcons and has also shown the ability to pinch-hit in the ruck.

He’s set to be one of the focal points for the Falcons this season alongside fellow draft prospect Koby LeCras

Jayden Clarke

Club: Perth

From: Swanbourne JFC

Position: Small forward

Height: 175cm

Age: 17

Clarke is a dangerous small forward with plenty of tricks.

The Demons youngster averaged over a goal per game last season, highlighted by a four-goal, 11-mark performance against East Perth in Round 4.

He also took one of the marks of the EGT WAFL Colts season, getting some serious airtime on the shoulders of his Royals opponents.

Cam Maynard

Club: South Fremantle

From: Fremantle City Dockers

Position: Small forward

Height: 171cm

Age: 17

Who could forget Maynard’s scintillating EGT WAFL Colts grand final last season, when he booted three goals in a losing cause and even pulled out the backflip celebration.

The 17-year-old is an exciting small forward with plenty of tricks who is expected to take his game to another level in 2026.

Elijah Dennis

Club: Claremont

From: Claremont JFC

Position: Medium defender

Height: 191cm

Age: 17

Dennis only made his colts debut last season but finished the year as a premiership player for the Tigers.

He became a reliable and consistent contributor for Claremont’s back six this year and will take plenty of confidence out of his bottom-age performances heading into his draft year.

Ben Wood

Club: East Fremantle

From: Attadale JFC

Position: Key forward

Height: 192cm

Age: 17

The Sharks spearhead averaged two goals per game in his 17 colts appearances last season as a bottom-ager, including 12 multiple-goal hauls.

He’s coming off a three-goal haul in his last pre-season outing and will once again be a handful for opposition defenders across the competition.

Harper Banfield

Club: Claremont

From: Cottesloe JFC

Position: Midfielder

Height: 181cm

Age: 17

There’s another Banfield running around for the Tigers in 2026.

Harper Banfield, the younger brother of St Kilda draftee Charlie and son of West Coast great Drew, will be looking to build on his impressive bottom-aged campaign, which finished with a premiership alongside his sibling.

While he doesn’t have the size of Charlie, Harper can run all day, knows how to accumulate the footy and has the ability to hit the scoreboard.

Finlay Yeo

Club: East Fremantle

From: Booragoon JFC

Position: Small forward

Height: 172cm

Age: 17

The Fremantle Next Generation Academy talent has already put together an eye-catching highlights reel, with freak goals and massive leaps.

He’s not the tallest player going around but makes up for it with explosiveness, goal-kicking prowess and X-factor.

Dockers fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on his performances this season.

Robert Farmer

Club: Claremont

From: Railways (Great Southern)

Position: Small forward

Height: 179cm

Age: 17

Farmer is a dangerous small forward who showed some promising signs as a bottom-ager, featuring in the Tigers’ finals campaign before getting squeezed out for the decider.

He’s coming off a strong pre-season, kicking goals in each of his games, including four against Peel Thunder in week three.

Axel Walsh

Club: East Perth

From: Mt Lawley-Inglewood JFC

Position: Ruck

Height: 202cm

Age: 17

It’s hard to believe Walsh still has another season before he’s draft eligible.

The athletic ruck, who was one of three West Aussies to earn Under-16s All-Australian honours last year, is one of the nation’s best 2027 AFL Draft prospects.

He’s only played the one colts game, after a knee injury in the back half of 2025, but is expected to feature prominently this year.

James Artemis

Club: East Fremantle

From: Hammond Park Hurricanes

Position: Midfielder

Height: 179cm

Age: 17

Like Walsh, Artemis is another top talent for the 2027 AFL Draft.

The East Fremantle young gun enjoyed an exciting 2025 campaign, capped off by winning WA’s State 16s MVP award and being named in the Under-16s All-Australian team.

He also featured in the Sharks’ colts finals campaign and finished the season with a 20-disposal preliminary-final performance against premiers Claremont.

Fynn Tomasini

Club: Perth

From: Belmont JFC

Position: Defender

Height: 188cm

Age: 16

The talented defender slotted into the Demons’ back six nicely in the back half of the season after featuring for the WA under-16s mid-year.

He’s another 2027 AFL Draft prospect with plenty of buzz around him, and has already been linked to expansion team Tasmania as a ‘player of interest’.

Mitchell Stirling

Club: Peel Thunder

From: Baldivis JFC

Position: Key defender

Height: 197cm

Age: 17

Stirling is an excellent size at 197cm, has a great set of hands and reads the play well.

Looms as an important player for the Thunder’s hopes of rising up the ladder.

Byron Foster

Club: South Fremantle

From: Jandakot JFC

Position: Key defender/ruck

Height: 196cm

Age: 17

After leading South Fremantle’s ruck brigade as a bottom-ager last season, Foster is set for a defensive switch in 2026.

Has already shown plenty of promise in his new role and will only get better as the year goes on.

Kalum Smith

Club: Swan Districts

From: Aveley JFC

Position: Ruck/forward

Height: 197cm

Age: 17

Smith has some exciting attributes for a player of his size, with his running ability and ball use setting him apart.

Heath Wilson

Club: South Fremantle

From: Mundijong JFC

Position: Defender

Height: 188cm

Age: 17

Wilson is a reliable, versatile defender who’s equally as capable of locking down his opponent as is his providing rebound back half-back.

Made the State 18s squad as a bottom-ager last year to go with 16 appearances for the Bulldogs including the colts decider.

George Gale

Club: Claremont

From: Swanbourne JFC

Position: Wing/defender

Height: 190cm

Age: 17

Gale is another familiar name running around for the Tigers, with his father Mark a former Fremantle and St Kilda player.

He had a strong bottom-aged campaign for Claremont last year, averaging more than 20 disposals and five marks per game and featuring in their winning grand final side.

Bol Makuach

Club: Peel Thunder

From: Baldivis

Position: Ruck

Height: 200cm

Age: 18

The athletic ruck had a bit of interest last year and shapes as an exciting prospect for the next level again this year, playing as an over-ager.

Should thrive on the back of a strong pre-season as he looks to build on his promising finish to 2025.

Lucas Robinson

Club: South Fremantle

From: Lake Grace-Pingrup

Position: Midfielder

Height: 189cm

Age: 17

Was originally much higher up the last but may not be sighted too much at EGT WAFL Colts level if his opening-round league debut goes well.

Robinson is a big-bodied midfielder from the country town of Lake Grace, already making his mark at South Fremantle.

The 17-year-old starred as a bottom-ager for both South Fremantle EGT WAFL Colts and WA’s under-18s last year and got a taste of senior footy during the pre-season, impressing in a midfield role before getting bloody for their Round 1 clash against Swan Districts.

He averaged 26.4 possessions per game for the Bulldogs colts, racking up more than 21 touches in each of his seven appearances including a 35-disposal, 12-tackle performance against East Fremantle in week two of finals.

Robinson is part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy due to his Zimbabwean heritage, with the Dockers no doubt bracing for an early bid.

Xaiver Little

Club: Peel Thunder

From: North Mandurah JFC

Position: Forward

Height: 187cm

Age: 17

The lively forward was a part of the AAMI WA Football Summer Squad and was recently named best-afield for the AFL Indigenous side in their victory over an AFL Multicultural All-Stars side in Melbourne.
