Easter Launch For 2026 Sullivan Logistics WAFL Season

The Sullivan Logistics WAFL season will begin next year with a quadruple header on Good Friday. 

WA Football has confirmed the 2026 season will begin with five matches played over two days during the Easter Long Weekend. 

The opening game of the year will be played in Mandurah on Good Friday, one of four games on for the day. 

Peel Thunder will meet East Fremantle on April 3 at Lane Group Stadium.

Later that day, Grand Finalists East Perth face co-tenants Subiaco at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, Perth faces the West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park, while reigning premiers South Fremantle will travel to Steel Blue Oval to play Swan Districts. 

West Perth host Claremont in the final game of the round on Easter Saturday. 

In a boost for the WAFL, the AFL’s Gather Round in Adelaide means the local spotlight will focus on Round 2 of the WAFL on Saturday April 11.  

A focus on traditional rivalries will continue next year with ANZAC Day, WA Day and NAIDOC Rounds all standouts. 

With ANZAC Day falling on a Saturday next year, four matches will be held in the afternoon. 

Perth will continue its recent ANZAC tradition of playing East Perth at Mineral Resources Park, honouring our service men and women in a pre-match ceremony. 

Other matches on ANZAC Day include Claremont and East Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium, West Perth at home to South Fremantle and Subiaco faces Peel Thunder. 

Supporters will get their first taste of Derby action in Round 8 as part of the WA Day long weekend, with South Fremantle at home to East Fremantle, while West Perth takes on East Perth, both matches scheduled for Monday, June 1. 

On the bye weekend for the competition, WA is scheduled to play South Australia in a KIA Australia State Game on Saturday May 16 in Perth. 

The 20-round home and away season will be followed by a four-week finals series, culminating with the Sullivan Logistics WAFL Grand Final. 

Plans are in place to stage the decider on Saturday night, September 20 at Optus Stadium. 

Luke Sanders, Head of WAFL Competitions at WA Football, is confident the Easter Long Weekend is the right time to begin the season to attract strong crowds, allowing for a family friendly experience.  

“WAFL clubs continue to create a fantastic atmosphere for fans and families, alongside the unique chance to listen to coaches and enjoy a kick on the ground at breaks,” Sanders said.  

Sanders believes players, clubs and fans should be excited about another highly competitive WAFL season.  

“Every year, the priority is to grow and enhance the WAFL, and with every game streamed live on 7Plus, as well as 21 games broadcast on Channel 7 this year, the competition is more accessible than ever before.” 

Viewership for the competition last season attracted over 995,000 people across the 7 Network and 7Plus as fans consume the best in local football.  

Grand Final Day also produced an average audience 80,890, across the screens of 7 through metropolitan and regional WA, up 10% on 2024. 

Digital viewership was also up 150% year on year. 

The 20-round-home-and-away season aims to provide the fairest fixture for Australia’s most exciting state league competition.  

While the traditional timeslot of Saturday afternoon will be consistent throughout the season, the addition of alternative matchdays provides fans with opportunities to see their favourite clubs. 

“Playing games across the weekend creates opportunities for the WAFL, including attracting a larger audience, both at the ground and on Channel 7, as well as supporting initiatives such as WA Day and NAIDOC Week,” Sanders said.
