Following on from a very successful Indigenous Round in the AFL, the Subiaco District will be celebrating District Dreaming Round, during Round 7 of the junior competition at Barry Britton Reserve in Balga this Sunday 21 June 2015.

District Dreaming (formally District Dreamtime) is a celebration of Indigenous Culture, and an acknowledgement of the contributions from both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians to our great game of Australian Rules football.

It is also an opportunity to continue reinforcement of positive game environments, provide a history of Aboriginal culture, and an opportunity to integrate the community through football.

The Balga Junior Football Club will host the day’s events at Barry Britton Reserve, including three matches with five teams from within the Subiaco District (see below), where local District footballers get the opportunity to emulate their idols on the field in front of a large crowd of supporters.

The ‘Welcome to Country’ and official welcome will commence at 9.30am, with a traditional dance being performed by the Balga SHS SNSEP Indigenous Dancers at 11.25am before the final game.

The Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club will also be supporting District Dreaming Round with a number of activities celebrating Indigenous Culture at Ellersdale Reserve including a welcome to country, cultural dance and a didgeridoo performance. For more information around the activities at Ellersdale Reserve, contact Vice President Helen Watkinson at wgjfcvp@gmail.com.
