Semi Finals Reserves and Colts Wrap

SOUTH Fremantle’s reserves team and East Fremantle’s colts are straight through to the WAFL Grand Finals for 2017 following second semi-final victories on Sunday while the season is over for Swan Districts in all grades.

The colts action on Sunday began with the cut-throat first semi-final between East Perth and Swan Districts at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Royals proving too strong ending the season of Swans with the 16.15 (111) to 2.11 (23) victory.

Then in the colts second semi-final at Leederville Oval, minor premiers East Fremantle came off the break in the first week of the finals beating Claremont 12.7 (79) to 9.10 (64).

That means East Fremantle is straight into the Grand Final while Claremont will take on East Perth in this Sunday’s preliminary final in a rematch from last year’s premiership decider.

The reserves first semi-final took place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Claremont advancing to the preliminary final by defeating Swan Districts 12.12 (84) to 9.5 (59).

Despite South Fremantle finishing on top of the ladder, Subiaco got to host the second semi-final at Leederville Oval but the Bulldogs proved too strong winning 11.10 (76) to 5.9 (39).

South Fremantle moves straight into the Grand Final while Subiaco will now play Claremont in Sunday’s preliminary final for the right to take on the Bulldogs on Sunday September 24 at Domain Stadium.

STANDOUT RESERVES PERFORMERS
The reserves first semi-final took place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Claremont proving too strong for Swan Districts winning by 25 points.

Swans did kick six goals to two in a supremely impressive second quarter before Claremont dominated the third term with the only five goals.

Swans did get back to within two goals in the last term but the Tigers steadied for the 25-point victory to advance to the preliminary final.

Dylan Holt and Eddie Simpson kicked three goals each for Claremont with Nick Winmar and Brett Wilson also booting two.

Tom Shanahan racked up 33 possessions for the Tigers, Lachlan Martinis 31, Jacob Sideris 27, Max Bentley 23, Ben Rushforth 22, Bailey Rogers 20, Harry Sinclair 19, Winmar 18 and Oliver Eastland 18.

Jeremy Goddard had a solid game in the ruck with 15 disposals and 24 hit outs.

Roderick Manton, Tom Smirk and Steven Wityk all kicked two goals each for Swan Districts.

Chad Daniels picked up 21 possessions while laying 10 tackles with Troy Yukich amassing 57 hit outs.

South Fremantle won straight into the 2017 Grand Final beating Subiaco by 37 points at Leederville Oval.

Brendan Verrier was outstanding for the Bulldogs amassing 39 possessions to go with 10 marks, six tackles, six inside-50 entries and a goal.

Jacob Dragovich returned from a hamstring injury and was superb with 38 disposals, 10 marks, seven tackles, seven inside 50s and a goal.

Jake Florenca also made sure he continued to put his hand up with 28 touches and 10 tackles while Jarrod Parry collected 25 possessions, Andre Coutinho 21, Jesse Musika 19, Kyle Russell 18, Daniel Burke 18 and Brandon Donaldson 17.

David Fiamengo was South Fremantle’s only multiple goal-scorer kicking two while Mitch Dzelebdzic worked hard for 17 disposals, six marks and a goal.

Josh Pullman kept South Fremantle’s defence together to put his hand up for a league recall for this Sunday’s preliminary final against Subiaco at Leederville Oval.

Brad Stevenson did his chances of earning a recall at Subiaco for that preliminary final no harm either responding well to his demotion with 16 possessions, four marks, five tackles and two goals.

Dylan Nelson also kicked two goals for the Lions.

Simon Parry picked up 19 possessions, Daniel Leach 19, Braden Fimmano 18, Kyron Hayden 16, Brayden Ainsworth 16 and Ryan Borchet 15.
