WAFC congratulates Carlton Draught State TeamWednesday, May 31, 2017 - 1:51 PM

The West Australian Football Commission congratulates the Carlton Draught WAFL State Team led by coach Michael Broadbridge and captain Kyal Horsley on creating history against Victoria on Saturday, May 27.

WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said that on behalf of the WAFC and the board of Commissioners, he congratulated each of the coaches, players and support staff on the significant role they played in WA’s historic win over the Victorian Football League.

“To defeat Victoria on their home soil for the first time in 113 years was a momentous occasion for WA football and one that the WAFC is extremely proud of,” he said.

“We greatly appreciate everyone’s commitment to the State program in 2017, especially the players and coaches and the support staff that assisted from South Fremantle Football Club.

“All of the WAFL clubs are to be congratulated on their support for the State program and encouraging their players to be involved, as well as the professional manner in which they have assisted their players to prepare.

“The commitment of everyone involved in the program each year is the key to its ongoing success and we sincerely thank everyone who has played a role.”

WA has now defeated South Australia, the NEAFL, Tasmania and Victoria in consecutive State games to cement its claim as the premier State League competition.

Mr Taylor said the WAFC was committed to ensuring the WAFL retained this status.

“Showcasing such talented WAFL players in State games demonstrates that the WAFL is a high-quality broadcast competition that continues to play an important role in supporting mature-age talent.

“The WAFC looks forward to working with the WAFL clubs to ensure the competition continues to achieve these outcomes as the premier State League competition in Australia.”
