Female AFL 9’s proves a hit

It’s not too late to join the six-week long female-only AFL 9s competition which has been running at Curtin University South Oval in Bently.

The non-contact social competition is played over two 20-minute havles on a smaller field similar set-up to that of a netball court.

The program has entered it’s fourth week and WA Female Football Coordinator Allana Dickie is pleased with how many new faces it has attracted.

“This week alone we have had five new women join, including a motther of two from Edgewater,” Dickie said.

30-year-old Tessa Brown said the long drive was completely worth it.

“I love how this competition provides an opportunity for women to develop their skills in football while also enjoying exercise and having a laugh too,” Brown said.

No experience is required to play the non-contact competition.

“15 out of the 18 women currently taking part in the sport have never actually played football before,” Dickie said.

“Anyone can join in and learn the basic skills and rules of footy.”

Competition Details

The AFL9s competition runs for 6 weeks from April 27 – June 1 every Wednesday night at 6:15pm at South Oval in Bentley.
It is only a $20 for the full 6-week program.
