Fremantle Dockers partner new school programs

The Fremantle Football Club launched its 2014 schools program this week to coincide with the beginning of the new school term.

Competitions will have a new look this year and also include two new programs for Secondary School females to be run in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission.

The Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup for Year 10, 11 and 12 students and the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup for year 8 and 9 girls will both be vital cogs in the Female Football pathway.

WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson thanked Fremantle Football Club for its support of school football and ongoing commitment to the West Australian community.

“All of the programs delivered in partnership with Fremantle are designed to provide an environment for primary and secondary aged school students to experience personal achievement in terms of competence, enhanced self-esteem, social cooperation, maximum participation and skill development,” he said.

Programs include:

Freo Footy Skills

An integrated program that allows students the opportunity to participate in a range of “game sense” activities including Freo Fast Ball, Freo Kwik Kick and Freo Long Bomb.

Freo Dockers Cup-Primary Schools

An extremely popular interschool football competition for primary school aged Year 6 and7 female students. The Freo Dockers Cup is played in either a one day Lightning Carnival or a weekly round robin format. This year will see 150 school teams participating.

Freo Dockers Shield

Played in a one-day lightning carnival format organized by the schools in their District or coordinated by their WAFL District. Games are played under AFL Junior Rules for male students aged 11 and 12 years. Approximately 600 schools state wide will take part in 2014.

Freo House Footy

A modified game that has strong parallels with the traditional game of Australian Rules Football. Designed so that everyone can play, it is less physically demanding, has minimal time commitment with a major emphasis on fun and safety and is non-contact.
