The oldest surviving WAFL League footballer has turned 100.
Bob Taylor celebrated the milestone today, March 5, with family and friends at Parkwood Retirement Village in Woodlands.
Taylor played for East Perth before the Second World War and then represented the Perth Football Club after the war.
Bob went on to umpire footy as a field, boundary and goal umpire.
He was also the founder, along with Cliff Fitzpatrick, of the Doubleview Football Club that produced players including Mike Fitzpatrick and Gary Buckenara.
Taylor was today presented with a jumper from the Perth Football Club, along with a gift from WA Football to acknowledge his milestone.
Having received a letter from King Charles to mark his century, Bob has outlined his theory behind his longevity.
“I stay active playing lawn bowls and I don’t mind a home brew,” Taylor said.
His daughter, Jennifer Vissers, believes sport has played a major role in her Dad’s happiness.
“Playing team sport has been integral to Dad and the friendships that have come from that,” Vissers said.
