The West Australian Football League will allow each team to field an additional player for Round 1 of the AAMI WAFL Premiership season tomorrow (Saturday March 16) under the WAFL Heat Policy.
WAFL Operations Manager Cameron Knapton said that although the forecast had come down from 35+ to 32 degrees, it was in the best interest of the players, clubs and competition to action the Heat Policy.
“We decided earlier this week to implement this policy to allow clubs to plan for selection, given they can each field an extra player in their League sides. Players are also coming into Round 1 off shorter pre-season games,” Knapton said.
“Quarter breaks will also be increased from 7 to 10 minutes to enable teams to leave the field for the shade of the rooms at each change in both Reserves and League. Half time will remain at 20 minutes.
“We will also consider implementation for Round 2 should it be required,” he said.
Initial squads have been named with 26 players.
