WAFLW Round 7 Recap

THE top three WAFLW teams from last year all flexed their muscles with Round 7 wins while history was made with East Perth scoring its first ever win in the competition.

It was an eventful weekend in the WAFLW with Claremont staying undefeated, East Fremantle handing West Perth consecutive losses, South Fremantle closing in on the top four, and then East Perth making history with a first ever victory.

Round 7 got underway on Friday night and it was East Fremantle making a statement as reigning premiers beating West Perth 7.3 (45) to 1.3 (9) at Joondalup’s Pentanet Stadium to move into second spot having won three straight.

History was then made on Saturday at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah with East Perth winning its first ever WAFLW game, beating Peel Thunder 5.5 (35) to 3.4 (22).

The Royals had lost their first 21 games in the WAFLW competition after entering at the start of 2023, but they have been significantly more competitive so far in 2024 and now got the reward with the winless against a Thunder team now 0-6 to start the season.

Next up on Saturday was Claremont continuing its unbeaten run to start the season on the back of losing last year’s grand final after going through undefeated. The Tigers beat Subiaco 5.9 (39) to 4.5 (29) at Revo Fitness Stadium.

The round wrapped up on Sunday with South Fremantle winning consecutive games for the first time this season beating Swan Districts 7.4 (46) to 5.2 (32) to be knocking on the door of fourth spot to be only percentage now behind Swans.
